Lowered Expectations - Hawks vs Oil

CHICAGO:35-13-4, 74 pts VS EDMONTON: 16-28-6, 38 pts

Game Day: Tuesday Jan 26th
Game Time: 7:30 PM MST
Radio: 630 Ched
TV: TSN
Location: Rexall Place

So whether you look at it as the Oilers reaching for all new highs in the lottery, or all new lows in the standings, there is something for everyone with tonight's game. The Oilers defensive core has been dealt a hard blow in the last week, the team will roll with what we have as well as the call up Chorney. Tonight we find out how well that will work against one of the top teams in the league this year.

ROSTER UPDATES:
Edmonton – Ladislav Smid (concussion), Gilbert Brule (flu-like symptoms) and Sam Gagner (knee) are all questionable for Tuesday;
Chicago – the Hawks may see the return of Dave Bolland, who has been out several months after back surgery. According to reports, Bolland has joined the team and will skate Tuesday.

OILERS TO WATCH: Sam Gagner has been one of the few productive skaters, tallying three goals in the last two games.

BLACKHAWKS TO WATCH: Jonathan Toews continues to produce for the Hawks. Captain Serious has six points in his last five games. …

MY KEYS TO THE GAME: Um, really lets face it, there isn't much the Oilers can do but try not to make their fans cry by allowing 20 or so unanswered goals. I just hope for some entertainment, maybe a goal or two? Maybe? At the very least this team could give us a chorus line production during intermissions. Whatever you need to do, find your happy place if you're still watching games. If not, well you're missing out on the Toews and Kane show. How amazing would it be if this is the year that the longest Stanley Cup drought was broken and the Leafs with Burke at the helm take over that record?

I've been trying to look this stat up. I know that Mirtle wrote a blog on this a little while ago... We'll see if I can dig that up.

I think "Brand New Low" by Treble Charger should be the theme song for every GDT from now on.

I'm not sure if it's that high, wouldn't you need the team's plane to crater into a mountainside to achieve a number like that?

Should be, but I'm not sure the Oilers won't play up to their competition. Sure, they come out really poorly against bad teams, but can they do just enough to lose to a good team too? I hope so.

Look, diving isn't really easy on professional athletes or for fans, but I have to give the Oilers tons of credit here: they're having one of the TOP SEASONS of any team in the league, and certainly of the 14 who are going to miss the playoffs. Hopefully they can take care of business losing to the Hawks and Blues and then dig deep to pull out a loss against Calgary. Although, given who they are and how Calgary has been playing recently I won't be upset if they fail to lose against the Flames.

Edit: In any case, I'm looking forward to this game since the Hawks, like the Canucks, give lots of room for the Oilers to play well for a while and make it exciting, yet still lose in the end.

Palfy, Deadmarsh, and Allison all missed close to 82 games.

yikes thats brutal. I know we aren't on pace for that number *knocks on wood* but it would be nice to see a healthy roster.

Any word on whether DD is starting?

I just wanted to highlite this point, because even though it's kind of facetious, there's some truth to it. They've lost in the neighborhood of 60 man games lost due to injury, which translates to third least amount in the league. What Calgary is bringing is as good as it gets. The worm is turning here, the universe will right itself soon enough. Once the Oil pick up Hall or equivalent and the injuries get fixed this could be a very good team next year with basically the same roster.

We want a win. You guys want a loss. Sounds good to both parties from the sounds of it.

I don't mind the Oil, and We both have 2 common interests. Take down the Flamers and Nucks.

If you guys want we have plenty of room on the Bandwagon on this board when playoff season starts.

The Hawks are my second favorite team out of the west. Count me in on your bandwagon come playoff time.. I'm hoping for a Washington/Chicago final.. that would be awesome.

I forgot, lol, Kenny Rodgers Jackass was pretty good too, but overall Mad TV was a terrible terrible program. It's almost mind boggling how bad it really was.
