Trade Deadline, UFAs, RFAs and more...

Well there was an article about the trade deadline and all the east coast teams up on TSN. It was actually an interesting read. It showed our our RFA and UFA and top prospects we would have to dive if we are going to trade.

http://www.tsn.ca/columnists/scott_cullen/?id=307639

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

UFA in 2010: Arron Asham, Blair Betts, Mika Pyorala, Mike Rathje, Ray Emery, Michael Leighton.

RFA in 2010: Daniel Carcillo, Darroll Powe, Braydon Coburn, Ryan Parent, Ole-Kristian Tollefsen, Danny Syvret.

Top Prospects:
Patrick Maroon, LW, Adirondack (AHL)
Marc-Andre Bourdon, D, Adirondack (AHL)
Joonas Lehtivuori, D, Adirondack (AHL)
Jonathan Matsumoto, C, Adirondack (AHL)
Stefan Legein, RW, Adirondack (AHL)

Others of Interest: Brian Boucher, David Laliberte, Andreas Nodl, Jon Kalinski.

No-Trade Clauses: Daniel Briere, Simon Gagne, Scott Hartnell, Kimmo Timonen.

The Plan: There's not a lot of wiggle room for the Flyers, but they do seem to have the talent necessary to make up ground in the Eastern Conference and get into a solid playoff position. Maybe a depth defenceman would help, but the focal point for Philly is going to be goaltending, whether or not Ray Emery or, improbably, Michael Leighton can be the guy to take this team up against the other Cup contenders.
So.. what do we do?

Personally... I say we just stay with the players we have. Homer is known for giving up more then we need.

Little wiggle room is right. I don't really see how much cap room can be moved to bring in a better contributor than we already have.

NTC: Simone Gagne, Scott Hartnell, Kimmo Timonen
NMC: Daniel Briere
pending NTC: Richards NTC gets implemented soon (not sure exactly when)

Here are my cap calculations (copy and pasted this from an excel sheet I have)
These numbers can be off a fraction or two, give or take.

Philadelphia Flyers Cap Status

Forwards
Danny Briere 6.500
Mike Richards 5.750
Simon Gagne 5.250
Jeff Carter 5.000
Scott Hartnell 4.200
Ian Laperriere 1.17
James Van Riemsdyk 0.88 0.85 (potential bonuses)
Daniel Carcillo 0.894
Claude Giroux 0.822
Blair Betts 0.55
Darrell Powe 0.52
Mika Pyorala 0.5
13th/Riley Cote 0.55
14th/Arron Asham 0.64
Defense
Kimmo Timonen 6.33
Chris Pronger 6.25
Matt Carle 3.44
Braydon Coburn 1.3
Ryan Parent 0.86
OKT/Bartulis 0.6
7th/Danny Syvret 0.575
Goaltenders
Ray Emery 1.5
Brian Boucher 0.93
Total 54.92
Upper Limit 56.8
Cap Space 1.8
Dead Space (Randy Jones) 1.38
Cap Space after dead space 0.43 (does not include JVR's potential bonuses which can exceed the cap)

Keep in mind these numbers assume a 23 man roster at all times. Also, keep in mind we go by a daily salary cap, so we can not exceed our daily limit any single day of the season.

EDIT: I also did not include Mike Rathje's LTIR of $3.5 million on my list, but I am aware of his situation and minimal impact on our cap situation.

Yeah, pretty much. $1.38 mill capspace could mean we could trade Coburn for someone who is $2.5 mill and have roughly the same wiggle room.

Richards NTC kicks in when he would hit UFA age. which is 2 years from now I think(judging by Carter's contract)

We should lock Betts up for 3 years.

I think Homer should find the hotel room that was used in The Shawshank Redemption and hang himself for that Jones move.

after 2011? ok, makes sense to me, 6 years of RFA after you start your first season in the NHL

Betts for 2 years at 0.7 would be ideal. He is a huge difference maker for us.

Carcillo needs to resign for $1 or less. Coburn for $2. We could maybe give Emery $3 if things work out. Just speculation really though.

JVR's bonus could hurt us as far as wiggle room goes though.

We need to keep Betts. I would be for a 2 or 3 year deal. Nothing longer.

Emery, like I said in another thread, ask me after the playoffs.

Carcillo, Powe I'm sure will be back. Coburn, and also Parent on the other hand in my mind is a mystery.

I don't see OKT back. Syvret I do.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd like to keep Asham for what he makes now. I like what he brings to the team.

OKT is a ufa

I want Coburn, Parent, Powe, Carcillo, Betts, and maybe Asham back. Emery depends on the rest of the year.

Im open to trading Coburn, but not to letting him walk.

2012 I think (that's when Carter comes up). Pretty sure it's seven years of RFA.

Definitely bring back Betts, Carcillo, Emery, Powe and Syvret.

If we can get a decent deal keep Asham, Coburn and Parent.

Let everyone else go.

I want Coburn (under 2m a year 3 years deal), Parent (what is the future holds for him. disk surgery is no joke.), Carcillo, Betts (depends on his shoulder, I like Betts) back. Syvret as #7.

Asham can walk even know I like him.

Would not mind trading Powe and replacing 3rd line center or 3rd line RW with someone better and bigger.

Interested in trading Carle and getting someone like Volchenkov, if we even have a shot at him.

Look into trading Briere if there is a market for him. Getting bigger on RW and 3rd line center is a priority.

Not sold on Emery (time will tell) but would let Boucher go for sure.

Offseason:

Tim Thomas for Coburn+Nodl at the draft

Oshie+Cole+Palushaj for Carter in the offseason

Sign Adam Foote for 2.2

Sign Mark Recchi for 1.45

That'll leave us with around 2M in cap space for 13th forward/7th d-man.

Gagne-Richards-Briere
JVR-Giroux-Hartnell
Powe-Oshie-Recchi
Carcillo-Betts-Laperriere

Pronger-Carle
Timonen-Foote
Bartulis-Parent

Thomas
Boucher

Hey, I pulled it off in a GM game with actual people, not NHL 10.

Capgeek is not perfect, I have seen at least 2 major problems with contracts on capgeek. (I play in a salary cap keeper league and we go by salary not cap hit, cap geek often averages the contract even when it is frontloaded).

Isn't that total ****? I understand that they want to just get it up to say they have it, but they don't always adjust things right away.

I KNOW! I wish they cited the source for each contract. I understand for some contracts that it's hard to get the info right away, but I know Tom Gilberts contract is all kinds of eff'd up on CapGeek and he signed it like 2 years ago.
