Loui Eriksson named to team Sweden

Congrats big Lou. He'll be joining a pretty stacked team featuring mostly NHL veterans.

Jonas Gustavsson (Toronto Maple Leafs/NHL), Stefan Liv (HV 71), Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers/NHL)

Defenders:
Tobias Enstrom (Atlanta Thrashers/NHL), Magnus Johansson (Linkopings HC), Niklas Kronwall (Detroit Red Wings/NHL), Nicklas Lidstrom (Detroit Red Wings/NHL), Douglas Murray (San Jose Sharks/NHL), Johnny Oduya (New Jersey Devils/NHL), Henrik Tallinder (Buffalo Sabres/NHL), Mattias Ohlund (Tampa Bay Lightning/NHL)

Forwards:
Daniel Alfredsson (Ottawa Senators/NHL), Nicklas Backstrom (Washington Capitals/NHL), Loui Eriksson (Dallas Stars/NHL), Peter Forsberg (MODO Hockey), Tomas Holmstrom (Detroit Red Wings/NHL), Patric Hornqvist (Nashville Predators/NHL), Fredrik Modin (Columbus Blue Jackets/NHL), Samuel Paahlsson (Columbus Blue Jackets/NHL), Daniel Sedin (Vancouver Canucks/NHL), Henrik Sedin (Vancouver Canucks/NHL), Mattias Weinhandl (Dynamo Moscow/RUS), Henrik Zetterberg (Detroit Red Wings/NHL)

...although it would've been insanity if he wasn't selected.

Looking at that roster, it doesn't seem at all to be the best group of players Sweden could be icing, but hey, what do I know.

I really can't stand them, but I would love to see Eriksson on a line with the Sedins. I have a feeling that they would give the other teams fits with their ability to hold onto and puck and play strong defensively as well.

If Eriksson excels while playing with the Sedins we're going to see a lot of "Eriksson to Van" proposals.

I'd rather have Loui play with Alfredsson and Zetterberg. A lot of two-way hockey with plenty of offense.

Eriksson - Zetterberg - Alfredsson

I wouldn't mind that either. Although it wouldn't help me with my mancrush on Zetterberg, lol.

Whoever he plays with it should be interesting. Personally I would love to see him play with Zetterberg because I think they would be really good together, but he would fit perfectly with the Sedins as well. Hopefully he plays well (although not too well ) and keeps getting exposure.

I think it's weird Grossman was left off. There aren't many Swedish shutdown types like him, if any.

Good for Loui though. He should get some quality linemates, too.

They chose Doug Murray for Grossman, odd, but not as odd as Modin.

Any chance Brunnstrom fills in for injured players? Y'know, since Samuelsson's already talked himself out of any possible spot on the team.

Not that odd. I'm a huge Grossman fan, more than most Stars fans I think, but I am continually impressed with Murray whenever I see him play. I was hoping Grossman would make it instead of a couple others they took, but what do I know. The Wallin in, Grossman out thing is kinda strange.

Wallin is not in, the post slightly above is either incorrect or about something else (like random Swedish defensemen).

Look at the original post for the correct line-up.

If the intention was to point out Eriksson's being a soft player....you may want to watch a few games and write us a book report on where and how he scores the majority of his goals.

Eriksson to wear 91(?)

Looks highly likely and even more likely it's to pay homage to Richards being left off Team Canada, pretty cool to see.

Quote:
Eriksson wouldn't even confirm the rumor that he might wear No. 91 for Team Sweden as an homage to Stars linemate Brad Richards.

"That hasn't been decided yet," Eriksson said with a sly smile. "But I have always liked that number."

Reading between the lines, it sounds like he will. That's pretty cool. Obviously he has to find a new temporary number, but the reasons to like Loui keep coming.

I've always liked Loui and the way he goes about his business but personally this elevates him to badass status IMHO

If you take a look at ADSP's latest practice photo gallery, you can see Loui breaking in some new Team Sweden gloves, which I thought was kinda cool.

In fact, all the Olympians are. Morrow's got some nice Canada ones as well.
