Lets say the whole team is undergoing rennovations and we can only keep 3 players from the team, the rest will be traded. who would you like to keep?
i think all answers are going to be something like (lundqvist gaborik staal) but lets see what we got
id choose
lundqvist avery and probably dubi
lundy is a given
avery is basically our mascot now
dubi i like his play and effort and i feel he can fit in many places on a team
Poor decision to choose Avery. He's a 3rd line player. Whether he is a fan favorite or not he isn't a player you build your team around. Pick the key pieces to build a team. #1 Goaltender, #1 Center and a #1 Defense Man. And for #1 Center / Defense Man I use that term loosely for those two (in particular Dubinsky).
Lundqvist
Staal
Dubinsky
In that order too.
With opening the cap so much you can replace a player like Gaborik by signing another FA super star. Gaborik definitely wouldn't have been my first pick despite how much of an upgrade he is over Gomez at the same price. You can also sign a legitimate #1 center to the team while Dubinsky still develops.

Well you have your Number 1 goaltender, and a solid defenseman, but wheres your Number 1 Center?

well a team isnt crap without chemistry and i think those 3 would make a good atmosphere in the locker room with people just comming in, kinda like a good 1st impression--i know avery probably isnt a great person to use for an impression but he goes good with he organization
Yeah, that's really the only answer imo. Unless you're willing to substitute MDZ for Staal. I think a better question is who you would keep in order for the current roster down to who you would want to get rid of the most, contracts considered.
Gotta keep tier:
Lundy
Gaborik
Staal
MDZ
Dubi
Cally
Would prefer to have tier:
AA
Avery
Gilroy
Prospal
Ochocinco
Girardi
Meh tier:
Boyle
Christensen
Lisin
Voros
Honestly a 4th line where you pick three of these guys would be fine with me.
Granted Hank is good. But he gets burned everytime over the shoulder. But then again, I don't see us getting anyone better.
I don't care if every single goal Lundqvist lets in for the rest of his career is glove side from center ice. As long as he puts up elite stats it doesn't make a difference how the few that go in do get by.
Any answer other than Lundqvist, Gaborik, and Staal is completely wrong.

Well, IMO substituting Staal with someone like Del Zotto, Callahan or Dubinsky is passable. He is a tid bit overrated. But still probably the answer.
would you really want to build a team around gaborik though? only plays one season with the team and is prone to injury
with all the other players being gone and the cap space will let us get someone worth building a team around
Absolutely. He's only what, a week or so removed from leading the league in goals despite having far worse support than any of his competition. He's fifth in the league in points, behind Sedin, Ovechkin Crosby and Thornton...four guys who are surrounded with talent not only on their lines but on their teams. Career wise, he has 498 points in 553 games playing with the Wild and the Rangers, neither of which are offensive powerhouses.
Yeah, I'd say I want to build a team around him. I'm curious as to what forwards you think are worth building a team around, not including the obvious OV, Sid, Malkin list.
LMFAO at Avery and Dubinsky over Gaborik. Ive heard some good ones in my time but that takes the cake.
I'd rather free up that $7.5 million from Gaborik and to free up cap space and take the chance at landing Kovalchuk in the off season.
Kovalchuk > Gaborik.
Keep Dubinsky because it is just his third season. He will get better, and he is a good cap hit at $1.7 million. Worst comes to worst he develops into a quality second line center and with all of the money you have freed up you can sign a legitimate #1 center, right? If I kept three contracts I'd be looking at rebuilding this team and the three players I keep would be Lundqvist, Staal and Dubinsky. You can replace Gaborik with another super star forward and sign a legitimate #1 center with all of the money you are freeing up by dropping Gaborik, Redden, Rozsival, Drury, Kotalik, Higgins, Brashers, etc. That is over $32 million to play with.

Staal >>>>> Del Zotto. Rookie Staal >>>>> Rookie Del Zotto. Staal, even in his first year, was sound defensively. You look for defense men who can play defense first and work on the offensive skills. Not defense men who have offensive skills but are horrid defensively. IMO the two aren't even comparable. I don't care how many points Del Zotto put up on our PP early on in the year.
