atlanta and boston are two very different franchises. well neither wins, but other than that fanbase/organization/future are all in favor of boston. i think its def possible wheeler sulks in atlanta

i also wouldnt be surprised if kovalchuk is not moved and signs with the khl. hes a rental and la/bos are not going deep in the playoffs with or without him
Thanks for that insight, We B's and King's fans can stop watching now.

you have to give to get in this league...if you want one of the top 10 players in the league added to your team for a stanley cup run, be prepared to give..

Would IK have significantly greater value than Hossa did at that deadline? Hossa isn't as dynamic offenisvely as IK, but plays a much better two way game, which is highly desireable in the P/O's.

Rentals trades have NEVER included blue chip prospects, top 5 draft picks, or young contributing NHL'ers with significant upside. I think that due to IK's overwhelming offensive abilities - that might change this year, but to think that there will be mulitple of those type of assets included in the deal is insanely optimistic from a ATL POV (exception - CHI to help clear cap space for next year).

the bruins will not acquire kovalchuk. and if they do he will sign with a khl team the week after they lose game 5 in the first round and are eliminated by a legitimate playoff team. and you can BOOK that daddio

1. Bruins NOT acquiring Kovalchuk.
2. Kovalchuk signs in the KHL after the playoffs.
3. Bruins lose in game 5 of the 1st Round.
4. You used the word 'daddio'.

Got it, you are booked.

Nobody will take him before Olympics. Players get paid through the Olympics, and there is also a risk of injury. It'll happen March 3rd.

Yay...another month of rumors.

I too think that would be a high risk/reward type deal. Edmonton should be all over that if they can't get TO's 1st this year. 1st overall these days is always a good thing...even in a "weak" draft. There is a good chance it could be the 1st overall.

To add to that...I know a lot of things would have to go just right, but can you imagine if Toronto trades 2 1st overall picks and a second for an overpaid Kessel that probably wont have anyone to dish him the puck, making him basically useless.

Everyone was praising burke when he came to town...the kessel deal might actually be way worse than any of the JFJ deals.

Anyone think a three between calgary, boston and kovalchuk makes sense?

Phanuef to Atlanta
Kovalchuk to Boston
Krejci, Bost 1st to Calgary

Bos 1st, which if they get Ilya might as well be Tor 2nd, and a prospect is next to nothing. For that kind of return Atlanta just hangs on to Kovy and sees if they can make the post season. It is not as if Kovy is asking to be traded.

Not surprising, that pick looks to be a star player very soon. I still think LA is going to get him.
