I have no idea. These debates rarely go anywhere. Look at all the debates there are with guys that have played a couple years in the NHL. Need to actually see all these guys play some NHL games first. Right now neither team is complaining about their picks.
I'd take MPS over all of them. I just think he has all the tools to be an elite forward. Cowen would be at the bottom of my list.
I agree, Eberle doesn't pass MPS in my books just because of another great WJC. Magnus has already got the speed + size to make the big show, imo he's a sure-fire NHL'er even if he ends up being a 3rd liner. But I think his potential ceiling is higher than any of these players.
On a kind of related topic, does anyone remember that thread in the prospects board last summer that compared Eberle/MPS vs. Hodgson/Schroeder? The Canucks duo won handily in the eyes of the HF majority - I wonder if sentiments are still the same?
MPS-Karlsson-Eberle-Cowen for me... and I'm pretty surprised to see I'm the first one that has that order.
MPS is a full year younger than Karlsson and at least in my opinion, is an NHL caliber player right now or at least very close. Maybe he's not better than Karlsson right now but that one year age gap is huge at that level.
I'd take MPS/Eberle over Karlsson/Cowen as well. Normally I'd give an edge because Karlsson has played in the NHL, but that doesn't mean much when MPS is a year younger and multiple scouts/hockey people have said MPS is NHL ready already.
And not a huge fan of Cowen from what I've seen, Eberle has done more in the dub and in the world juniors.
I like Karlsson, but I wouldn't trade Eberle or MPS for him. He's a bit undersized, but I think he's a smart enough player and good enough positionally to overcome that and become a very good defenseman (much like I'm hoping for Chorney). Don't really have much to say about Cowen. We have Petry; I'm happy with our prospect pool--especially after what should be a good upcoming draft for us.
OTT and EDM aren't good trading partners; I think this has been made obvious time and time again. Omark might be available in the right trade, and I think he's a great talent, if you're looking for a potential top 6 winger with a lot of skill; but he won't bring back a Karlsson or Cowen, obviously.
