Not sure how this would help the Oilers. It has to be a mutual agreement. If you were Horcoff (for example) would you "mutually agree" to walk away from 30 million dollars? I don't care if it's supposedly embarassing to play in the AHL. Hell, I honestly can't think of a single embarassing thing I wouldn't do for 30 million dollars.
This worked out because it was a 1 year deal so Sykora wasn't really walking away from all that much. None of the Oiler contracts that we want to unload set up the same way.
I'm probably more surprised that it took 7 responses before it turned into a Horcoff thread.
I was kind of hoping it wouldn't, but I am not surprised that it did.
I didn't exactly state intent with the op, other than this occurrence btwn. Minny and Sykora being a possible way of dealing with clearing out contracts. I was thinking more along the lines of mycaptainethanmoreau should there be no takers for him. you know, smaller fishies.
Even if the NHL makes the Wild take the cap hit I believe it's only for the remainder of the season because Sykora is UFA July 1. Horcoff...not so much.
kk lets assume that we can do this to horcoff and it doesnt count against the cap, to sweeten the deal for horcoff(30 million is alot of money to walk away from but it is taxed money so he doesnt see all 30 million) whats stoping Katz from paying horcoff off lets say 15 million to help the team out, for reason i wish not to talk about it would a secret from the nhl and mr betman
kk lets be serious if this could happen without the league reacting we would have seen it happen already it's not a big loophole(im assuming) it can only be done with players that are UFAS at the end of the year
