Do you honestly think he could just let him walk away?

It appears there will be some cap issues until at least 11/12. That's when Finger, Blake, Grabovski and Hagman come off the books. That will save the team $13 million in wasted salary, that could be better spent. All of those signings(with the exception of Blake) were Fletcher-era deals. Hagman and Grabovski could probably be unloaded, but good luck with Blake and Finger.

Unless a trade is made, they won't have a 1st round picks until 12/13. That's two complete drafts without top-tier talent to develop.
Top tier talent isn't always available in the first round. If it was easy as tanking the season to get top tier talent in the draft and it was guaranteed that it would be there then more teams would be trying to do it.

Burke and Fletcher have put the organization back another 5 years. Traded away just about every pick over the next few years for Kessel, Meyers, and others I can't remember at present. Instead of stockpiling picks they've been unloading them. It's ridiculous.

Best,
Shawn
Thanks for that Shawn. Your comments are well respected in these parts.

I'm wondering though, how do you feel about the fact the Leafs have a 1st line who is 22, 22, 23 years old. They have a few other forwards who are around 25 and only a few over 30. Kadri is also a year or so away.

On defence, they have Schenn (20), Gunnarson (23) and White (25)

And their best goalie is a 25 year old rookie, who has has flashes of goodness.

I', just wondering why you are being such a defeatist.

Respectfully Yours
Steve

True, the draft is a crap shoot. But at the same time, the first round is a great farm for mining talent.

everything is a crap shoot but good GMs hit on more picks then bad GMs that's the difference these good GMs use the draft to build their cup contending teams

btw i don't trust the man who traded Kubina for Exelby in any trade

The age of all these players is great, but only one of them is a first line player.

I agree. But either they can grow into a first line role, or be a pretty good second liner when BB brings in better talent. If even 1 of Bozak, Kadri, Kulemin or Stahlberg become 1st line talent in the next 2-3 years, we could have a good young first 2 lines. Imagine in 2-3 years if this teams veterans are 24-26 years old.

I'm just pointing out there is some good young talent with the club, so the "cupboard is bare" thing is a bit of an overstatement.

I agree with you on your point but I honestly believe outside of Kessel and Kadri who is still a maybe the others are all at best 2nd line players. Could they get by and play first line minutes, sure maybe but I don't see many high ceiling guys on the farm or in the system.

Burke has his work to do and really he is just starting, it's just too bad he off to such a poor start.

Brian Burke needs to be put in the meat grinder and turned into a hot dog. That fat piece of garbage is good for nothing.

I can understand the fans frustration, but the fans have to understand that Brian Burke is the best GM in hockey today and a genius.

I think you just answered the worries right there no?

Kessel, Kadri first line material possibly. With luck we only need to find 1 more.

Kuli , Boz, Sta possible 2nd line.

Nope i don't regret one thing i posted in here.

If these two trades work out great. Sweet ,excellent, awesome.

But, it does in no way change my opinion on the past trades that i dislike.

It does not change my disappointment in this disaster of a season.

It does not cleanse the horrible decision to keep Tosk this long.

These two trades may mellow me from loathing hatred to a still very POd.

Not all. There were many that knew the rebuild wasn't over and more changes were to come. All that was needed was a little patience.
