The dude doesn't even own the team yet. Me thinks this is a tad premature. Besides, I don't know what V4 has to do to make people understand that he wants to remain with the Bolts. Maybe a tattoo on his forehead that says, "Bolt 4 Life" would work, but I'm sure these threads would continue to pop up anyway.

How the hell is he going to be able to keep him?

60 million for the next 6 years is ridiculous.

Hopefully that's just smoke, I see no reason for the Bolts to give up on him (I would even go so far as to say giving up on your star center [or rather, one of them now] and captain after an injury-plagued season and the next [in which he's having a relative comeback, by the way] is just 'classless'.)

This rumor should surprise NO ONE.

Seriously, Vinny and his fiance (who are about to have a baby) could sign Vinny Jr. Up for a Kindergarten, and some asshat with a need for ratings will write up some type of trade proposal that sends Lecavalier Jr to a Montreal Kindergarten for a case of milk, and somehow involve Michael Ryder, both Kostitsyns and a 2nd.

Lecavalier trade proposals will exists until he retires... and even then someone will figure out a way to trade his history, and make it seem its about to happen.

All seriousness...while this is feasible, it's premature at best. The due diligence hasn't been done on this owner, nor have we heard word 1 out of his mouth. There's a pretty good chance the potential owner hasn't looked at the books fully, nor has done a revenue projection under how he wants to run his team.

It's a money thing. Not a performance thing.

Good post. The new prospective owner also probably has no idea just how popular Lecavalier is in Tampa. What a great way to pi*s off fans right away. Not smart.

A PPG+ player with solid 2-way play and leadership for his cap hit, while not a bargain by any means, isn't really that bad a contract. While the average cap hit on signings has probably been down the last year or two what with the economy, when that's over with and the cap starts moving upwards once more, his contract will start looking more and more 'fair', possibly even a 'deal'. What a lot of the 'what have you done/what have you cost for me lately' crowd around here forget about looking at these large, long term deals is the effects of inflation over as long a period as 10+ years.

As far as TB's finances go, I doubt revenue will be much of a problem for them once they start meeting with success again. Trading away a star captain in his prime right when your team looks like they could be on their way to a recovery (improving Stamkos, developing Hedman, at least 1 goaltender doing well) isn't really what I call a recipe for success.

Wait what? A new Lightning owner?

Damn, I need to start keeping tabs on other teams more often. Can someone explain to me what's going on with Lightning ownership?

EDIT---NVM, the article explained what's going on.

Lecavlier has a NTC, so regardless if a new owner decides to trade Lecavalier, it's going to be Vinny's call, not the owner's.

A preemptive "no" from the Kings. We're not trading Simmonds, Brown, JJ, Stoll or are first. Forget it. It's not happening. Today, tomorrow, or next month. Negative. Niet. Non. Nada.

That's part of what makes me LOL. Adam Proteau has been at best a poor source when writing about the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Not to be a nit, but he has a NMC, not a NTC. Big difference with the power that the player holds.

On a partially side note, did anyone catch the segment on what the Tampa players drive? Jeez, talk about extravagant and pretentious. These players are certainly not like us despite what those commercials want you to think. Then again, I can't think of a Canuck player driving one of those.

Nah, TB can keep him, that ship has sailed, unless they take Gomez from us.

There's no foundation to the Lecavalier part. It's pure speculation on the part of the THN writer...he shouldn't of even put it in.
