Lecavalier rumour thread (Bettman Blocked a Vinny Trade to MTL last June)

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=308043

Hockey News is also speculating that if Vinik buys the team that he will likely attempt to cut payroll, meaning rumours of Vincent Lecavalier's departure may heat up once again. The Lightning's captain is scheduled to earn $10 million for the next six seasons with a salary cap hit of $7.7 million per season. The possibility exists that Lecavalier may be made available before the NHL's trade deadline prior to Vinik potentially taking control of the team.

Lecavalier has a no movement clause in his contract and has previously stated that he would like to remain in Tampa, however there had been plenty of discussion of a potential move to Montreal for more than a year.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/article...ier-trade.html

Quote:
Sources say there was a deal in place last June to trade Lecavalier to the Montreal Canadiens for goalie Carey Price, center Tomas Plekanec and a prospect, but the deal was blocked by Bettman after Barrie refused to approve the deal. That caused a rift between Barrie and Koules that continued to fester and, combined with the financial problems both owners were having, put the Lightning in a state of flux.

Before this gets merged all I have to say is that I don't want him on the Canadiens
He is making way to much for what he puts out
Besides unless gomez goes the other way... which he wont be is Tampa is cutting salaries
This has no chance of making it under the cap

the marketing , of him in Quebec?= gigantic dollars

Will be media riots if he is traded to another team not named Montreal.

If he is traded to Montreal will be like nothing you seen in the last 15 years

It's not the fact that they can't pay him
its the fact that he wont fit under the cap
you need players making what they deserve to survive in a cap world

i think they make it fit .

anyways Tampa got some hard road to travel .

there drawing 10,000 a night

and got some names that need new contracts like Mr St Louis Stamkos,Victor H .....yep oh ya ,leauge is having to pay the player now arent they?( pay roll)

.... ripe for a shake up down there , the new owner may have little choice.

There is 10,000 or less a game now with Vinny...if they trade Vinny how many less you think they will get?

Bad situation .

I think it's the cap issue more than anything. Gee Doug, I was wondering where you went. Artyukhin?

No thanks, I'd rather have Gomez at that kind of money.

Im would find it hilarious if he signed in Toronto who's looking for a center for Kessel and have the cap space. The reaction in this province would be priceless.

Again , its odd there is no one wearing a "C" . It's almost like there waiting for "something", and this something finally is happening ....

If Gomez does go the other way it does save TB money. About 2m per year for this and next I believe. This is because VL actual salary is 10m for the next 5 years then it drops whereas Gomez' contract is 8m, 8m, 7.5m, 5.5m 4.5m, therefore, TB would save huge dollars even though the CAP hit is roughly the same.

I really think that Tampa is stuck with that contract. They will never get a good return for Lecavalier.

And they'd get a good marketable American-Mexican player to outreach for all the latin potential customers of Florida. I wonder what TB would want us to add. I'd add a 1st + something good for Lecavalier. He would upgrade our team. But again, those Lecavalier rumors always seem to be fantasies. Why would it be different this time ? It's true that with Stamkos on fire already playing with Saint Louis, and with the change of ownership, and with the Gomez "dump friendly contract with all the money almost already front loaded", who knows ?

I had read that also and I really don't see that as a rumor at all. All they are stating is that if this dude buys the team he MIGHT cut payroll which MIGHT mean Vincent because of his contract and that there had been previous talks with the Habs. A lot has changed since then and I doubt they would want to take much contract back...who would the Habs give up at this point? Please.

If he is traded at the deadline or before (Lecavalier), Montreal will trade Halak because Gainey is a Carey Price fan boy

So by that

Halak (850 K)
Plekanec (2.25)
Hamrlik (5.5)
3rd round Pick

VS

Lecavalier (7.7)
Nittimaki (850 K)
Steve Downie
1st Round Pick

We give Plekanec for Lecavalier ... Lecavalier is better I don't care about plekanec stats , there's no comparison. Lecavalier is a playoff performer.

Halak + Hamrlik + 3rd VS Nittimaki , Downie , 1st

Not a chance we deal Plekanec now. Last year, yes, but not now. I would think it'd be something like:

Kostitsyn
Kostitsyn
Halak
Spacek
1st

for

Lecavalier
Konopka
Foster
Nittymaki

If Tampa trades Lecavalier they would want a center in return ...

That's why Plekanec have to be in the deal and BTW last year they were rumour that SUBBAN was in the deal ... now with the emergence of Plekanec it saves us Subban , our first round pick and more.

How is having Vinny at a cap hit of 7.727 mil cap hit and Gomez at 7.357 mil good for the team? You are just listing benefits for the owners not the team. Only way we can take on Vinny is if we get rid of Gomez and I do not see that happening this season.
