IF a team made a proposal contract for him, New York would succeed in equating this proposal ??
Rangers have no much cap room and the signature for a RFA can allow a package of pick like (d) or (e)
Quote:
RFA rules : (a) Up to $660,000 - No compensation
(b) $660,000 to $1 million - One 3rd round draft pick
(c) $1 to $2 million - One second round pick
(d) $2 to $3 million - One 1st and one 3rd round pick
(e) $3 to $4 million - One 1st, one 2nd and one 3rd round pick
(f) $4 to $5 million - Two 1sts, one 2nd and one 3rd round pick
(g) Over $5 million - Four 1st round picks
I'd like to think that, but Sather hasn't shown much of a track record for getting his RFAs signed before July 1st.
You're right, but I have to believe he sees Marc Staal as every bit as valuable as most of us here do and I can't be too concerned with it at this point.
Give the kid 3 million for 3 years and call it a day.
Wayyyy too much, defensive dmen do not make that much on the second contract, esp when no ufa years are bought. He gets a deal similar to dubis, a little higher than what girardi earned on his second deal. Posted via Mobile Device

Yeah, unfortunately this defensive D-man is on pace for more points than Mr. offensive D-man Rozsival
Staal is 10th in even strength points this year among defenseman....tied with Doughty.
And he's actually earning his points this season by making nice plays. It's a good thing Tortorella isn't giving him PP time, because he'd probably finish with 10 more points just by being on it.

Staal needs to work on his shot. If he improved his shot he would be on the point on our powerplay, considering Drury is a forward and doesnt even have a great shot and Kotalik has no confidence and seems to give up a SH scoring chance every time hes out there.

Not sure if that will ever happen since he's pretty much always had a terrible shot. Would sure make our PP less one dimensional if he can though. If I were him I would spend the whole offseason just training in the weight room and shooting. Ask his brothers to help him out. Especially Eric who has one hell of a slapshot
I expect Staal will get offered similar money as callahan even though he is not arbitration eligible. I think he will get more than Dubinsky who also was not arbitration eligible. Probably will take him to his last year of RFA.

thought i read that kotalik worked a lot on his shot to stay in the NHL or something. staal obv has the size and strength to have a blast of a shot. i imagine with a lot of work he can make it an asset.

Zdeno Chara and Souray and are two other players that developed their shot almost overnight. Chara only had 6 goals in his first 231 games. Souray had only 13 in his first 287 games. So obviously he won't be the first to do it

Yes but Staal hasn't shown us a shot like those two, either. Not even a hint.
Souray put up almost a ppg in the WHL and Chara was sort of an anomaly.
