sounds a bit harsh. But it was a pretty bad elbow to the head. W/v he could use the rest, and having Alzner or Carlson up from the minors is never a bad thing.

typical. Green is run straight between the numbers in colorado and its his fault. He elbows a guy for the first time in his career and he gets three games.

it's funny cus Gonchar had a very similar elbow on Clutterbuck and didn't even receive a fine. But we all know how much the league worships the pens.

Seems excessive given his track record but the preceding hit and intent didn't help.

Retaliatory, premeditated, elbow, and to the head in the current climate. Glad he showed some snarl, but the penalty is about right, or not off by much.

Once again the league shows no consistency.

I figured a game or two. 3 is a bit steep, but I don't particularly care.

Rather he take the games off for his knee/leg.

It is still the wheel of Justice type of approach that's a bit of a joke.

I had figured on two since it was a pretty blatant elbow. Three is not that far off.

My take on the whole thing - Green loves to come across for the big hit every once in a while but he REALLY mistimed this one. Not only was he off line he had also lost too much momentum by the time he got to Frolik. In the interest of not getting burned on the play, sticks his elbow out. Dumb play.

Given the stories about his metabolic issues last year, I hope he keeps in shape during this layoff.

That was dumb. And now he is on their radar. It seems there is no in between for him. He never just hits guys. He tries to destroy someone once every 20 RS games or so. But we are in playoff mode now, and thats what he does in the playoffs.

To be honest, it looked like he was trying to a hip check and just sucked to me.

The thing I dont get is the Gonchar deal. Gonchar had been buried with a hit just like Green. So...I am not sure I am seeing the difference. Caps v Pens maybe? Veteran vs young guy?

Personally, If I were to guess, I would say that the League doesnt like the Capitals attitude. Green is crushed in the numbers by Koci and that passes by with a fine. They didnt like Green's attitude on that play. Here this is as much about attitude as the actual play when you reference Gonchar.

That was Green's prototypical open ice hit. He just had is elbow up, which was different.

While it wasn't a horrible elbow to the head, it was pretty bad so I've got no problem with the suspension. I'm a bit surprised that they did it but whatever, it'll give some more ice time to younger guys and that will help with depth come playoff time.

Anyone else find it a laugh that people were complaining about the caps announcers being homers on the kolikov-green knee hit....Locker was totally non-homer and extremely objective about it.

While I think this deserved a suspension anyway,
the Patrice Cormier ****storm sealed it.
All hits to the head are going to be looked at
really closely from now on I think.

just finding the silver lining here. personally i think its deserved and i want the league cracking down on this kinda thing... sadly though, for every justified suspension there are 4 or 5 suspension-worthy incidents that get swept under the rug... Gonchar on Buttercup being the most egregious

ALOT of Caps hate on the main boards these days, guess i dont read over there enough to notice it most times... arrogant posters dont help that much, nor does the Caps hanging 5+ on folks fave teams nightly.
