I'm really struggling trying to figure out exactly what New York has to offer for Phaneuf.

NYR have prospects and some young players...

I am wondering, what salary NYR will have to move to get Phaneuf under the cap.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Drury go the other way.
I think Phaneuf has burnt some bridges in Cow town and they would luv to dump him for any warm body with around the same cap hit.

The same cap space that Sather was able to open up to sign Sundin last year.

Prospects and young players aren't of much interest.

Though, maybe the Flames would consider something based on Dubinsky and Prospal, I think they could fit well in Calgary.

I could see that.

I would assume they'd want to move Rozsival, but I know you guys need scoring as well.

Well Cally, Dubinsky, Anisimov (maybe) and Staal are the young players I was talking about. Not much interest? Fine.

I do not think NYR will trade Dubinsky because they simply can't afford moving him now.

Let's not forget that The flames were in a bidding war for Redden in that same summer the Rangers signed him.

I really think one of the teams would have to dump salary in the minors or to a 3rd party team, because it would be really tough to balance salary and keep fair value.

Ah well, there should be some interest in Dubinsky. But I can't imagine New York would move Anisimov or Staal, and I don't think Calgary would be overly interested in Callahan.

You're probably right, I'm just really not sure what New York could offer that would both fit in Calgary's cap and entice them to trade Phaneuf.

Calgary won't be interested in Cally? Yeah ok lol.. He is one out of 4 players I would be interested in.

Look, I do not know who do Flames need or what players NYR are prepared to move. I just said that NYR got what it takes for a potential Phaneuf trade.

If NYR would offer Staal, Kotalik and Anisimov and Higgins for balance for Phaneuf. Would you say no? Would you be at least remotely interesteda nd I am not saying that they would.

NYR and Flames need the same thing. Scoring.
They can make a trade and shake things up but trading someone like Phaneuf is not a shake up trade.

The Flames were not in a bidding war. Sutter offered Redden 3-3.5/yr and when the Rangers made their offer Sutter said no chance.

Two teams that have the same weakness - offense - aren't ideal trading partners.

Staal and Dubinsky would interest me, but the Rangers wouldnt be interested in dumping these two. Bad trading partners here.

It's called a bidding war when the Rangers kept upping the amount. Columbus was in on it too.

Will not happen. Avery and Dion on the same team would pretty much seal the deal they wouldn't make the playoffs and the rift would be incredible. Cap wouldn't be an issue if the Rangers could move Drury.

Rather see Rags trade Booby Sanguinetti and Higgins to Chicago for Barker
