You can be sure Burke will be spending his money on forwards come UFA season.

I'm excited for Phaneuf. It was seriosly a dream of mine for the leafs to get him. Dreams do come true! He's potentially our next Captain IMHO.

Do Leaf fans really believe this or is just one lone guy who obviously doesn't know about Phaneuf's character...?

Champ, I mentioned Cowan because the OP was bashing Aulie without liking watching him for more then a game or two. If he is quick to write-off Aulie then I am interested to hear how he thinks about Cowan, a guy who couldn't even get ice-time on Canada this year.

And improves his defensive game as well.
I'd love to see Kessel play with Carter, but you know that isn't happening.

Imo this is win-win.
Calgary got the better package. They got 2 guys who play solid 2 way hockey and can give them 20-25 goals and a solid 2 way defenseman in white.

Phaneuf is a good guy to have on the powerplay but he is terrible even strength.

WOW

What a great way to wake up in the morning. Leaf's unload a bunch of garbage + White for Phaneuf? Wow. Well, Mcguire will be jerking off every Leaf game for sure.

What a steal by Toronto IMO. A big sack of craps VS Phaneuf + a great prospect... I ****ing hate Burke because he always does what is needed to be done in Montreal. But we just can't get it done.

Calgary may win the deal today....but they traded a 24 year old defenceman, a Norris candidate for a downgrade in White, a decent 2nd liner in Hagman and a future UFA in Stajan
(Mayers and Sjostrom are a wash...)
Sutter was desperate and NEEDS to make the playoffs so they win today....but not in the future

Re-read my post. Aulie was nothing special but I said he still has potential.

Cowen has nothing to do with the subject at hand especially since I'm not a Sens fan.

Nevertheless White has played akin to a top four defenseman on a team which was a defensive disaster and now will no longer be relied upon for everything. Stajan is likely to centre Jarome Iginla, seriously the kid must be estactic, in spite of Iginla's struggles and Hagman has been phenomonal as a secondary goal scorer which Calgary is in desperate need of.

Phaneuf is overrated and played terrible this season, in addition his contract is horrid and long term. Burke is banking on a return to form for Phaneuf, even if he likely will remain a liability. In all honesty I believe Calgary did this as a salary move, whilst taking a chance on who they acquired. Stajan can do what Jokinen was not, pass the puck and costs nothing by comparison. White easily has been superior to Phaneuf this season so their defense will not flounder and finally Hagman provides scoring.

Pierre Mcguire just said it best. "Calgary wins short term however long term Toronto is looking really good."
I completely agree. The beloved Phaneuf is very overrated. Calgary wins this trade. Toronto looks TERRIBLE right now.

I hate how people always go for the "he probably doesn't even watch ______". You may or may not be right, but that is not a real argument. If someone is basing their opinions on a player from the WJC, and you don't agree with it, then inform them of what is true and what is not true. That is the sensitive thing to do, not try to go for a tongue-in-cheek comment about their prospect (and he's not even a Sens fan!).

As much as i like to see "absolute robbery" for my favourite team...

There is always a method to the madness...by no means did Calgary get completely fleeced.
They made room for something maybe bigger, or atleast made it possible.

The pieces may fit nicely into the flames line-up, and I wish them well;especially Ian, i hope he gets a good opportunity like he did in Toronto.

The winner of this deal will hinge on how Phaneuf plays.

I think it's extremely silly of you to discount Aulie because he played with Myers. So what? He earned to be included in that top pair. This is just another example of Leaf haters bashing a prospect because of the team he plays on.
