OK, I know he is now the Toronto Maple Leafs first line center, but seriously now. He was an undrafted college hockey player a year ago. Now after one goal and five assists in the NHL, he is scheduled to be paid more than Parise? To give you an idea of how rediculous the situation is: Just based on his AHL numbers, Bozak would be like the third line center on the Phantoms.
Most of that is bonuses he won't get. His base salary is like $875k or something.
Yeah they were a team that couldn't score goals, weren't defending well and had some shaky goal tending.
and they still manage to beat our mighty Flyers 4-0
time will tell how this deals change respective teams,
I'm big fan of Kulemin, maybe now he will have more time in Toronto
Toronto picked up a Pitkinen headcase 2.0 and a goalie who has never been the same after they took away his over sized pads with the new rulings on equipment. Toronto is worse off in the trade, Calgary has improved hopefully not in time for tomorrows game.
What worries me about Toronto's dumping of players thus salary is that they will be brazen enough to go after Kovy or VL.

Kovy and Kessel would probably murder each other, so that actually could be pretty exciting.

They picked up a 5.5M dollar defenseman and a 6.5M goalie. Not much salary dumped.
As much as I hate Burke you have to give him credit.
Kessel is not a bust and Phaneuf is still pretty good while Giggy can rebound. Somehow he managed to keep Kadri and Schenn while adding decent NHL players.
He did unload Blake and Toskala. Not an easy task.

You are right they are only saving about 2 million, and probably only a little more on what they;d have to pay next year giving 2 of those players more money.

I think it would be over pretty damn fast, and Kessel wouldn't like how it turned out.

Well they're still professionals. On any day any team can win, but if you look at their results over the course of the season, those are valid assessments. at the very least this makes them an interesting team to watch for the rest of the season.
what are the Leafs doing?
trade away all that scoring for what? a overrated defenseman and a goalie who is on the downside of his career.
So the question is who gets the #1 pick? Boston or Edmonton?

Very good point. While I'm not sold on how good the deal will be for Toronto in the long run (and hoping it will go down as one of the worst in NHL history!), trading Blake and Toskala was a work of art.
How is this going over in Toronto? I bet Burke has those morons eating out of his hand. This was almost a "holy crap the team is bad, I better make a move to save my job" move. Burke stirs the pot, gets the fans excited again, and prepares to have another **** season. It's so awesome having Toronto miss the playoffs. It will be sad to see that streak end one day.
I've had 3 or 4 people ask me what I thought of the trades this weekend.
One guy said the best thing ever for the NHL is if the Leafs win the Cup, and they're on their way to doing so (or words to that effect). Once I stopped laughing, I said that the NHL doesn't give a damn if the Leafs win - they already sell tickets, children are brainwashed from birth, merchandise sales are strong (based on all the **** I see in stores), and they have a strong TV following.
There are a few planning the parade... a few realistic souls who are hoping Giguere returns to 2003 form, Phaneuf becomes the stud he was advertised to be, and are glad that Blake is history, and a few who don't quite know whether to be happy or not.
Val, I'm not sure which is more satisfying - Leafs not making the playoffs annually, or when the Leafs made the playoffs and were eliminated by the Flyers. It's a tough call.

I think I posted this earlier, but the Fan 590 was comparing Phaneuf to a young Denis Potvin with the offensive ability of Paul Coffey. I'm not joking, they were actually doing this.

I dunno, maybe I've forgotten how bad TOR is since they haven't been good, but I was just in shock listening to this.
They had this old guy on who was talking about how Phaneuf should already have at least one Norris Trophy and how there were sure to be Norris Trophies (at least 3 apparently) in his future.
I thought it was pretty funny, but living up there must be torture when the Leafs are even half-decent.
