With Nick Boynton going on waivers today, would any of you guys be interested in seeing him in teal?

I haven't had a chance to watch a lot of hockey this year, so i'm not entirely sure if he would be what the Sharks need or not, but he has had some solid years in the past.

No. Each year is worse.

Suspended from the team for unspecified reasons last year . . . It wasn't injury.

I'm saying one shows a more serious personality disorder than the other. Dany was a very young, super-star, professional athlete driving his super fast car super fast. This is not a personality disorder, this is a young man who did something VERY stupid just like millions of young men do everyday.

I drove a Nissan 300ZX 25 (65mph) miles over the limit on a city street directly into the side of Mercedez (without even hitting the brakes) making an illegal left turn in front of me. I was 19, I did not yet posses the experience or the faculties to understand the repercussions of my actions. I certainly did after that, and I drive my Prius at or below the speed limit these days. I was lucky, Dany was not.

Corvo groped a women, left the restaurant, came back, and gave a woman who meant nothing to him a beating. He INTENDED to injure that person. Dany did something stupid, but he did not intend to kill or hurt his friend.
Both show an extreme lack of maturity and one happened at 22 and the other happened at 25. Both ages can have those issues and both ages have the ability to grow up from it. I don't really care how you view each incident. It's stupid either way to hold it against the guy at this point seven or more years removed from the incidents whether there was intent or not.

ya I'm not really saying it has much bearing on my support of getting him on this team. I was just pointing out it is not hypocrisy.

Not that I wanted Heatley on this team to start with, but that wasn't why anyway.

Watched him play down here in the OC .. he is serviceable but he takes stupid penalties at the worst times! So I'd say pass.

Code:
Name Pos 2009-10	2010-11	2011-12	2012-13
Joni Pitkanen D	4,000,000	4,000,000	UFA
Tim Gleason D	2,750,000	2,750,000	2,750,000	UFA
Joe Corvo D	2,625,000 UFA
Aaron Ward D	2,500,000 UFA
Niclas Wallin D	1,725,000 UFA
Andrew Alberts D	1,050,000	1,050,000	UFA
Which would mean that Pitkanen is totally off the table. Gleason, Corvo and Ward would need to have salary going back to Carolina in order to make it work for the Sharks salary cap.

Wallin and Alberts could be had for just our salary cap of ~500k. Wallin would be ~340K and Alberts for ~210K for the remainder of the season.

With Pickles and Boyle out, we keep Huskins and Clowe and get another vet for the playoffs.

Not perfect but it might be like the Jason Marshall acquisition of a few years ago.
PF has a better grasp on this but even Pitkanen could be traded for. At the TDL, his prorated cap-hit would be $800K.

Using Capgeek's daily tracker and changing the date to March 3rd (the TDL), the Sharks are projected to be able to take on a (full season) cap hit of $2.88m so all we'd need to do, *I think*, is shed $1.2m cap hit (full season). Some combo of Shelley, Huskins, Staubitz would do it. (EDIT: not in a trade for Pitkanen but in a trade elsewhere)

Also, I think we can expand this $2.8m (full season) cap hit if we go to the 20man roster during the Olympics. That means Demers & Joslin go back to Worcester by Feb 12 @ 3pm EST - i.e., neither plays against the Sabres the next night - and get recalled after the Devils game on the 3rd. (edit: 2nd)

This assumes that we don't get any more injuries and Boyle and Vlasic return for the Sabres and Devils games.

Don't think Wallin is enough to stabilize the back end but wouldn't hurt to have him. I'll be a bit disappointed if that is the only move DW makes.

Wallin scratched for tonight.

Uhg, this is sounding done. Welp, all our talk was for nothing, we aren't getting a player even close to what we were hoping for.

Unless it's Huskins for Wallin there is no reason for this.

Can Sharks afford this cap wise without giving back some salary such as Mitchell?

I'm going to guess that we shipped off whatever prospect in the NCAAs is having the best year. Since that's pretty much what we did for Huskins (I know I know, we got Moen too. I'm just still pissed about Bonino).

No.

Someone has to go back, or get waived.

Wonder who's going the other way? Huskins or Mitchell? Clowe even?

Hmmmmm

If it is Huskins for Wallin, I'd be stoked. But I don't see Carolina wanting Huskins unless they are getting a solid pick or prospect back as well.

The Hurricanes have been after Joslin. I'm interested to see how this shakes out.

Maybe that's why Joslin was called up instead of Moore? Not just salary?

Still, we would need to make room somehow.

Huskins for Wallin makes sense actually. Caroline is not going to the playoffs, Wallin is retiring, Huskins is a similar player with a year left on his contract.

Why not.
