Tor - Pitt

Kaberle knows Leafs are heading nowhere, so instead of being traded to any team, he will provide a list to Burke to move to a contending team.

To Pitt:
D Tomas Kaberle (replaces Gonchar in future)
LW Nik Kulemin (former linemate of Malkin at Magnitogorsk)
LW Alex Ponikarovsky
RW Lee Stempniak

To Tor:
C Jordan Staal
LW Eric Tangradi

I think the last thing Toronto should be doing is trading more offensive depth

So Pittsburgh trades a stud young center and their best wing prospect for... 2 UFAs, 1 RFA young winger with potential, and an extra year of Kaberle? Nah, pass. Kulemin and Tangradi are a wash (I would prefer Tangradi) and 2 UFAs and one year of Kaberle are not even remotely worth parting with J. Staal for.

Burke made his blockbusters and seems to have done well but he's not a wizard.

There is no incarnation of a Kaberle for Staal trade that any sane Pens fan will go for. Let alone one which also takes our best prospect.

In other words, no. For the thousandth time.

A big no thanks. We don't need four new players, and we certainly don't need three new wingers. Essentially, we need one scoring winger and a one shutdown D.

I heard Pascal Dupuis is worth more than Nazem Kadri.

After all, he's played some NHL games, you know.

Considering both players are young, and have a similar upside, your comparison is way off.

hmmmm. I wonder if Burke is secretly as obsessed with prying Staal away from the Pens as Leafs fans are.

Believe it or not, it's possible to prefer a young forward that hasn't played in the NHL to one with similar upside that's played there.

Kulemin is 23 and in his 2nd season playing professionally in North America after playing three seasons on a top team in Russia.

Tangradi is 20 and playing (injured) through his first professional season after a career in the OHL.

Yes, I would imagine Kulemin would have proven more by this point...doesn't make him a better prospect, just makes him more experienced.

How do I compare them? They're both young wingers with considerable potential, I prefer to keep Tangradi, if you feel otherwise by all means hang on to Kulemin. Doesn't change the fact that this proposal is basically a swap of young wingers and Staal for 2 UFAs and a year of Kaberle, again: pass. Nothing against TOR, just no reason to deal Staal (and Tangradi) for that return.

Doesn't really make much sense overall.

Poni for 2nd+5th makes the most sense for both teams.

Poni->Pitts instantly makes him the best winger on the team.

Pittsburg needs current players more than prospects, so I wouldn't be surprised if Burke pulled out a Poni for Tangradi+dump deal.

I doubt we could get both Tangrati and Staal but I still dont understand why Penguins fans overvalue Staal.

I proposed this on another Leafs board and was told (by almost everyone) Toronto was over-paying...

Staal, Fedotenko and a 2nd in '11

for

Kaberle, Ponikarovsky and a 2nd in '11

I think today's dealings showed that anything is possible, but there is no way Pens fans would go for this. I doubt Shero does it (could happen, but probably not), and HF would shut down if it did, so lets just say no more Kaberle for Staal.

Time to start the Beauchemin + Finger for Bobby Ryan proposals

Should've watched the game today. Or any of the Finals last year.
