I'm confused. Where does the cap space come from? Kotalik + Higgins are 5.25 mil, last I checked, and you got no cap space from the last trade. You might have cap space after this season is done but not right now.

Sabres fan here. Sorry to hear you guys got Alko. For years, he's been one of my favorite Sabre players. He had great potential but it was obvious after years of disappointment that he just didn't have it in him. He was hated in Buffalo because he was lazy, disappeared for games and was very bad on 5v5. When Buffalo traded him last deadline day, it was a relief that we finally got rid of a player who we didn't expect we could ever get rid of. Shortly after, i felt happy for him to go and try it again somewhere else. I actually thought he played very well in Edmonton. But this season in NYR he's been terrible and even our own reporters in Buffalo still rip on Kotalik. The wide-open style in Edmonton really helped him. Not sure how Calgary's style will work for him?

He always gets off to fast starts. Last year he scored like 4 goals in the first 5 games or something and i know this year with NYR he had like 5 goals in 7 games or something..... think about that. He has 8 goals in like 44 games, 5 of which came in first 7. hmm....

Sorry Calgary, i truly hope this works out for you guys, i love watching you guys on center ice, but to me, this deal is brutal.

So now we have got over 4 mil in cap space... This better lead to a huge trade

Aren't we only on tap for a portion of their salary against the cap though? I'm pretty sure that's how it works when you pick up a player halfway through. Not positive though.

Plus we've broken our salary into smaller, easier to trade pieces.

I don't get where this is coming from...

Phaneuf 6.5m
Fredrik Sjostrom .750m
Jokinen 5.25m
Prust .5m

13m

Hagman 3m
Stajan 1.75m
White .85m
Mayers 1.3m
Higgins 2.25m
Kotalik 3m

12.xx m

That's slightly less than 1m that you guys freed up.

Hmm... that's interesting, but looking at that table below it seems off. I don't think it's been correctly updated. White is listed as $0, etc.

There we go, that's what I was talking about a few posts back. This must be going somewhere. Vinnie Lec?

Kind of off topic, but I've been reading the Atlanta fans expectations for what they want for Kovy... they are going to be disappointed, they are expecting way too much for a rental.

Wow what is going on today? Just don't like this one assuming it goes through. Hate to see Prusty leaving again. Maybe the hold up is because of Gilroy no longer being a part of the deal? Would love to get him instead of Higgins.

A lot of forwards if this deal goes through and obviously Sutter has something planned. I don't know what, but should be an interesting couple days.

I would hope for Vinny. I would offer Roy but he has a tremendous contract now for being a potential 60-70 point player and is the one guy on our Top 6 I can count on for consistency, as our Bottom 6 has been bailing us out. But as a Flames fan as well I would love to see Vinny centering Iginla. Kovalchuk is good, but you have to worry about resigning him and getting a decent center to set up him and Iginla.

Can you explain why White costs $0 for the rest of the season? And is not on "active roster"?

At this point and the money matters in TBL with Lenn Barrie they would do anything to dump his contract. The team is taking revenue sharing advances and would love to dump his 7M+ contract and this is a team I think would take it. They would do Lankow + (non-roster players) for Vinny IMO.

Too bad if TBL did that deal they would love corporate sponsors and that would be worse for them than keeping a proven leader and 85 point man.

Man oh man what is going on. At first the phaneuf deal had me scratching my head, trading a franchise cornerstone for mediocre offense. And now trading your deadline stud (hasnt been producing) for some scrubs. Sutter must have something up his sleve, if not then i dont know what to say except that hes obliterating my favourite team. Perhaps he is moving pieces for Kovvy, or marleau?????

Put some thought in...to get Marleau in this fantasy world you would be waving goodbye to Iginla or Bouwmeester + He has 37 goals this year you wont get him for spare parts
