I hope not, just because that would mean Tippett is petty enough to potentially lose the extra point by not sending out one of (if not our best) shootout man.
I don't want to say I disagree with you, because I was expecting Lang to come out as #4 and was disappointed when he didn't. If you have him on the roster you put him out there where he excels.
I would not mind at all if Lang found himself in the dog house though. Lang has lead for feet, which means he needs to rely on excellent positioning to be effective in Tippett's system. If you are going to give Mueller a hard time at all -- which would be misplaced over the last two games -- you have to be disappointed with Lang. Lang is looking pretty bad the last two games he played in and he got a game off.
Maybe he was sulking after getting passed over so much, but his shootout attempt even looked lazy. You can't follow up a brilliantly subtle double move to the back hand to score with a half ass shoulder fake and a weak shot.
Though ultimately it doesn't matter, since Lang missed and we still won.
Maybe Tippett was right and we were both wrong after all.
On another board the thinking was maybe he went late because of the bad ice. Since Lang normally does a lot of fancy stick and drag work on penalty shots
I'm not buying that. I would maybe buy that with Vrbata because he moves the puck around a lot more on his fakes than Lang. Vrbata went early. Lang is all about subtle moves that just look so genuine that the goalie bites and Lang makes it look easy. Watch Lang's shootout successes. He is not about exaggerated movement; quite the opposite.
