Tonight we see how much the team has grown since all those words about preparation and handling pressure Lombardi spewed a few weeks ago. The Rangers are gonna be gunning for us; they're desperate. We're on a big streak with lots of confidence, but can we match them, especially when we've been poor at home? I pray the Kings want this one as badly as we want it for them...and I hope we've learned our lessons about playing opponents lower in the standings, as there really are no 'lesser' teams in the NHL.

...except Edmonton. Poor guys

This Rangers blog seems to imply that Jokinen will play tonight:

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/rangers/

Both Jokinen - a 6-3, 207-pound Finnish centerman with plenty of talent and just as many question marks - and Prust, who is second in the NHL in fighting majors with 18, are expected to be at the Staples Center tomorrow (which is tonight back on the East Coast) for the road-trip-completing Rangers-Kings. They should make their Garden debuts on Thursday against the Capitals.

Since the Sabres gave up the lead(in the 3rd Period) and lost yesterday, doesn't that make the Kings the only team with a perfect record leading after second period?

IIRC the pens had a 5-3 lead going into the 3rd

This win streak is also attached to Kopitar scoring points like a madman. His scoring will be key to keeping the Kings going on this win streak.

Didn't want to start another thread, but here is a nice story from ESPN takling about the East coast bias. Here is the blurb about the Kings:

Quote:
Los Angeles Kings

The Kings went on a five-game road trip and won them all. They've won six straight and sure look like a playoff team. They have balanced scoring, a stud up front in Anze Kopitar and a stud along the blue line in Drew Doughty.

Kopitar is still just 22 years old, and his numbers have spiked this season after regressing in 2008-09. Kopitar's numbers are back on par with his sophomore NHL season. He should set career marks in goals, assists and points in his fourth season.

Doughty has put himself in the final three for the Norris Trophy with Duncan Keith and Mike Green. You can't be a consistent, top-level team without a five-star defenseman like Doughty.

I don't know whether Jonathan Quick is a playoff-caliber goalie, but if he is, the Kings have him at $1.8 million a year for three more years after 2009-10. That gives the Kings so much flexibility for the rest of their roster in the coming season and puts them in the Kovalchuk hunt in the summer if they don't trade for him during this season. Also, the Kings have a chunky expiring contract coming off the books in each of the next five seasons. The Kings should be good for most of this decade.

Updated TSN power rankings have Kings at 8

Quote:
A perfect five-game road trip leaves the Kings 8-1 in their last nine, and the big fella is leading the way: C Anze Kopitar has ten points during a six-game point streak.
Key Injuries: RW Justin Williams (leg).

... I find that hard to believe as Quick gave up 9 goals in the next 2 games (both losses) after Ersberg's loss to the Rangers. The fact of the matter is that Quick was already anointed as the number 1 by Murray, and it really didn't matter what Ersberg did.

Does it really matter when LA scored 3 goals combined in those two games?

... They only got 2 for Ersberg against the Rangers, right? So, again, why would one game be a "make or break" for one goalie while the two after clearly weren't for the other?

Quick was playing well the few games prior to being pulled against the Rangers. Murray already admitted that he f-ed up the rotation on that trip. Either Quick should have just continued playing and building on his strong play, or he should have sat against the much weaker (at the time) Islanders. The games leading up to the screw up are what is important in hindsight, since the games after were directly affected by the poor decisions in goal by Murray.
