Glen Sather Appreciation

He's awesome at trading

The other thing became a rally planning thread, so this didn't make sense there.

If you don't appreciate anything about him that's fine, but for any fans of the team that actually like the team here you go.

He really is a amazing when it comes down to
making trades. Now if we could keep him for making trades and get someone else to handle FA signings we would be in good shape

Sather has two personalities - he needs to make questionable FA signings so he can make great trades.

Gimme a break.

The only reason hes had these "great" trades is because hes been forced to unload a terrible contract that was HIS own doing.

I'll give Sather praise when he makes a great deal he doesnt HAVE to make.

He reaps what he sews every single year and turns the roster over and over and over again. You cant win that way. He's had ten years and all hes shown for it is a couple of quarterfinal wins. I dont appreciate that. Trade off Redden, Roszival and Drury. Lets see if he can do that. Then ill appreciate, maybe.

Fire Sather

Really.... a dual managing of this team where Sather handled the trades and someone else handled July 1st would be great.

I'll be shocked if this sentiment isn't already posted by the time I hit "post quick reply" but....

Yes, he moved some dead weight. But he's responsible for bringing in the dead weight so IMO it's a wash.

He got rid of Gomez, great job on that move. Do the same for Redden (never gonna happen) and I’ll get excited.

EDIT: I was right, clearly I need to type faster.

I find it hard to appreciate Sather when its his completely ****ed up signings that lead to such good trades.

I've figured it out.

Sather is Darth Sidious. He's Palpatine.

Palpatine started a war so he could accumulate power and become emporer. He played both sides.

Sather does the same thing. He signs players to bad contracts and then gets rid of them, and suddenly he's a "genius".

No matter how you slice it, they are both evil.

He doesn't just "get rid of them" he gets rid of them for a ton of value.

He's the worst GM in the history of the NHL. Sure, he's great at trading away his mistakes, but that's only so that he can make another mistake this summer. **** him.

Gaborik was basically in the Gomez deal. Jokinen is a guy who is an established top six guy who's deal expires at the end of the year. We gave up a guy who couldn't crack the lineup and an effort third liner. A ton of value is a relative term. For what we gave up it was a ton of value we got back.

It's not an amazing trade!

We paid Calgary to take Kot. Higgins had real value, probably a second or at least a third round pick. We gave that up to have someone take Kot.

If Slats can turn Joke into a second rounder or equivalent prospect, I will praise him. Right now, we just lost an asset in Higgins that couldve been turned into a pick.

You operate on the premise that we should be bad this year so we can be good later. I reject that notion.

A bit hyperbolic to be sure, but he deserves every criticism directed at him, even if it is overkill.

Sather's amazing, guys!

He makes the same mistakes year after year!

Let's keep signing mediocre free agents to bad contracts and hope that a loser GM will take them off our hands LOLOLOL!

An overpaid 31 year old center who won't be back after this year?

Clearly we have a different opinion on what a "ton of value" means.

You should change your name to Mrs. Sather, because only his mother or his wife could be this devoted to him.

Sather should take the summer off. We should have another GM for Free agent signings and Sather can come back to work every october and work on trades. LOL

This poster only shows up to defend Sather, I have yet to see him post in a game thread or any other thread.

I'm convinced he works for the front office. Probably the Rangers' PR department.

Why are people saying we got a ton of value? We got an overpriced Joke for 30 games. In 3 years, nobody will even remember that Joke was here.

Trade him now!

It was a good trade. But its only one half of the equation. You just know that capspace will be burning a hole in his pocket. And thats a scary proposition.

The bigger issue is its the contracts that he's giving out that are making these deals neccesary.
