Tyler Myers has been honored by the NHL for his play in January. The 20-year old defenseman had four goals and six assists in 14 games. He averaged almost 25 minutes of ice time per game. He beat out Colorado's Matt Duchene who had nine points in 12 games.

Awesome, but not shocking.

Keep it up, #57.

Well deserved, for sure. I think he's the front runner for ROY at this point.

It would take a huge hot run for a forward to win it, Duchene and Tavares aren't putting up ROY numbers. Only stumbling block is Howard but if they miss the playoffs it will without a doubt be Myers.

This illustrates that the Calder will be all about points.

Awards:
Pffft.... Myers. He's not Calvin De Haan.

I had to. I. Just. Had. To.

Thought some might be interested in reading this. Its from Kevin Oklobjiza's Hockey Zone blog on the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle's website:

Myers is NHL’s best rookie; de Gray, Big Mac doing their jobs
Filed by Kevin Oklobzija @ 2:48 pm on February 3, 2010

The NHL announced on Tuesday that Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers was the rookie of the month for January.

Come June, is there any way they won’t be announcing that he’s the Calder Trophy winner as Rookie of the Year?

Having just turned 20 this week, Myers is fourth in scoring among rookies with 7 goals, 24 assists and 31 points. The leading rookie scorer is center Matt Duchesne of the Colorado Avalanche, another first-place team. He has 17-20-37 but is a minus-6 in plus/minus.Myers is plus-8 and leads all rookies in ice time (23:29).

Defensemen are always going to have more ice time than forwards, but what’s most impressive — and still somewhat hard to believe — is that Myers still leads the Sabres in time on the ice.

John Tavares (17-16-33) is putting up solid numbers for the New York Islanders, as is James Van Riemsdyk (12-19-31) with the Philadelphia Flyers.

But I have to believe come voting time, Myers will be a landslide winner.
