I also feel confident in reporting that goaltender Kari Lehtonen will be traded before the deadline. I am hearing Dallas and St. Louis
about 4 hours ago from web

Attention NHL fans; I can assure you that Ilya Kovalchuk is leaving the Atlanta Thrashers. He will be traded sooner than later.

L.A is going to be paying a hefty price. They were going to give a 2nd round pick and either Voinov(sp?) or Teubert for a rental in Ray Whitney.

i dont mind moving Kari, either team could take a look..better to move him now, while 'healthy' before he goes down again.

i'm hopin Kovy lands in LA, not only do I think they have the most to offer, i'd prefer him out of the EC.

Right, but LA was allowed to negotiate with his agent about an extension.

No way Lombardi would give up Toobs and Voy for a rental of Whitney.

He makes alot of sense. The Stars brass seems to like the bigger netminders & Lehtonen is 6'4". Scouting report says he also handles the puck fairly well, so that would fit what our D is accustomed to. What does Atlanta need?

Hmm, if Waddell is interested in dealing Lehtonen, I wonder if Lombardi is sacrificing a goalie prospect in the Kovy deal.

I wonder which one, though..

Kings fans will be upset if it's Bernier.

Probably not. Backes is the only Blues power forward. It'd leave a GAPING hole.

thats the question..theres no doubt Kari has the talent (2nd overall pick, career .912sa% on some bad teams)..the injury history is a major concern...he could be a steal or simply never pan out/reinjured.

solid role player + 3rd?

Way too much for a guy who has had one good year.

I can't see them giving up a 1st and Lehtonen for Backes.

It wouldn't be Bernier. Compare Quick and Bernier to Nabby and Kipper. DL took his time and let it play out. I believe that Bernier would never be traded before he had a shot to see what he can do in the NHL

I can't see St. Louis giving up Backes for Lehtonen and a first. Lehtonen has been hurt a lot recently and Backes is a big part of the Blues. He does more then just put up points and you would really notice him gone if he was traded.

I doubt the Blues are willing to move Backes for a RFA-to-be. With Mason still under contract for the rest of the season, that would give us 3 goalies on roster. I think if the Blues are going to make a deal for Lehtonen(which I would love), it will probably be after the season unless Mason can be moved.

Can Lehtonen be worth anything more than a 2nd rounder/mediocre prospect/goon at this point?

I heard the tail end of the broadcast and they were saying that multiple sources have told them that Kovalchuk turned down highest offer in NHL history. They expect tonight or Saturday to be the last time in a Thrashers jersey.
