Lehtonen is the 3rd wheel, there has been talk of him moving for a while now. This does not necessarily have anything to do with any deal for Kovalchuk.

I also feel confident in reporting that goaltender Kari Lehtonen will be traded before the deadline. I am hearing Dallas and St. Louis
about 4 hours ago from web

Attention NHL fans; I can assure you that Ilya Kovalchuk is leaving the Atlanta Thrashers. He will be traded sooner than later.
about 4 hours ago from web

I dont know how reliable Kincade is so take it fwiw.
This rumor was out last week around town, I guess it finally reached his ears. What he failed to mention is that Maxim Afingenov has indicated he'd like to go where ever Kovy is traded to, he will not re-sign if Kovalchuk is traded. That's another rental on the market that NOBODY is talking about so far.

Maybe if Lehtonen wasn't DiPietro 2.0 (injuries) then it could be possible. Look for Dallas to be interested in Halak or Harding.

Kovy isn't coming to LA unless Lombardi is allowed to talk to the agent and he is extended. Or he is traded for a few average prospects and draft picks.

If these rumors are true, Atlanta got the players Kovy wanted and then offered him the highest contract in history, and he won't take it. What a D-bag.

Multiple Sources? Bus Driver, Pop Corn Guy, Cleaning People, Zamboni Driver, Equipment Manager?

Also they sooner rather later:

Well, Later could mean July 1st and the Sooner could be March 3rd. I think that he's gonna go a team nobody even thought of.

DL would trade for a reasonably priced rental Kovy, but will only open the coffers if his agent is present. Since it seems unlikely that that would be the case, Lombardi will likely just wait out his current offer and see if Atlanta gets desperate or if they find another team willing to give more, and then just wait until free agency.

Oh well, no playoffs this year for sure. One can only hope this is enough to get DW canned.

Is $100 million over 10 years more than what Ovie and Vinny got?

I'm beginning to think Atlanta wants the deal done yesterday, and I'd bet Lombardi put together another package that would fit their needs. I'm combining information I've read today on the usual sites. I'm getting the feeling Lombardi may want him more than we're led to believe.

Think about it, who will be available in the off-season if Kovy resigns elsewhere? Zero big guns.

Not sure Lehtonen makes sense for St. Louis.

We're talking a top-notch prospect, though. If one or both of your goalies don't cut the mustard, you'd have another waiting in the wings.

If Thrashers trade him before deadline they don't have to pay him $500,000 during Olympic Break. But the odds are they will have to take some salary back in the trade, so perhaps it is a moot point.

Not if you're trading with LA. Even if you do take some of our salary, it'll be a roster player, and the player(s) you'd get will be affordable. The Kings don't have many bad contracts.

A young goalie, who can play as a starter for years to come.
Yes he's been injured a lot in Atlanta, but Gaborik was injured a lot in Minnesota too. Colaiacovo was injured a lot in Toronto too.

He'd be a great goalie going forward for St. Louis.

At the prospect of losing Kovalchuk I think ATL is not going to be giving up many picks.

It doesn't make make him a Dbag for turning someone down, guy.

Money isn't everything.

He could have got that offer from Edmonton, but why would he want to go there? Even Heatley didn't want to go there.

Guy doesn't want to play hockey in atlAnta for the next 10 years. Can you blame him? I think it's actually admirable of him to not just take the money and shut up. This is the next 10 15 years of his life. Better be in a city he loves... Cough new York cough

I don't think the money during the Olympic break is the only problem...I would think risk of injury is a hinder as well.
