Interesting. Haven't watched NYI play much this year. Obviously he's outta gas. Wonder if he'll get claimed?

I'd love him in Edmonton, even though we really have no need for him at this point. All our physical defenseman are hurt, and it would be nice to keep him over Strudwick going forward.

He's a good leader but just too expensive at 3 million a season. Maybe re-entry waivers?

at 3 mill for this season and next, there is no way anyone is picking him up. Maybe the Islanders are just doing a little fishing prior to making a deal.

It was reported about a month or so that the Islanders were interested in Horc. If the oilers took Witt and the Islanders traded Weight for a mid round draft pick, the salary going out would be the same as Horcoff's cap hit (5.5 mill both ways).

Could that work?

Horcoff's salary is like 7 million, theres no way Charles Wang pays for that.

I'm surprised. Was he not doing well for the Isles as a shutdown guy?

Cap hit is still only 5.5 over the term of the deal

That doesn't mean the Islanders will want to pay 7 million actual money. They're not spending anywhere near the cap anyways, so the 1.5 million lesser cap hit doesn't affect them at all.

Odds he gets his outright release like Kraijcek did, Isles fans?

for teams like the isles with a (assumedly) self imposed cap, the real dollars are more important than the cap number

see the trade anaheim made, they took jason blakes cap number of 4.5 but they will only pay him two years 6 million

Wow I'm surprised there were no takers at all, great leadership for a playoff bound team. But he is def a liability on the ice.

Yup. Any team that doesn't spend to the cap, cap hit is meaningless. Theres no difference between 1 million under the cap and 2 million under the cap, if you aren't spending to the cap.

his cap hit is 5.5 mill and his actual salary is only 5.2 average for the rest of the contract. Horc's deal allows lower spending teams to get close to the floor without spending to the floor.

It really is the emergence of our 2 young guys Jack Hillen and Andrew MacDonald that did this. They have played strong and add this to witt slow speed he doesnt fit our system anymore...

I hope someone claims him great team guy

You answered your own question. Team's can't afford not just a liability, but one signed through next season.

He cant, unless he refuses to report to the AHL affiliate.

Might be useful as a bottom pairing guy on a team that plays more of a defensive system.

Idk if hes worth the money though, especially for another year.

Terrible sales pitch. 300k makes very little difference. The Islanders can save that money to give to players like Tavares, Okposo etc. They won't have trouble getting to the Cap floor. Maybe if this was near the end of a player's contract when their salary is 1 million but cap hit at 4-5 mill, that it matters.

probably nil.

he'd be crazy not to suck it up and go to the minors for the rest of this year and then hope for a buyout this summer.

he'd be leaving alot of money on the table by refusing to report to bridgeport or whereever their farm team plays out of.....

Too much remaining balance on his current contract. I don't see anyone claiming him.
