For the UFA, only Plekanec and Sanford makes my list of keepers

2009-10 Canadiens - After-50 Report

2009-10 CANADIENS - AFTER-50 REPORT

(Red players are those who really need to go)

(Green players are those who might go)

Your thoughts?????

CENTERS (B-)

Plekanec 50-11-37-48 A- *Strong, gutsy play overall. Must keep it up.
Gomez 46-6-26-32 B+ *Iffy start. Has played like the old Gomez of late.
Metropolit 44-10-11-21 A- *Heart player. Definitely a keeper.
Lapierre 50-2-6-8 D *Flashes once in a while, but generally horrid.
White 14-0-2-2 C+
Pyatt 19-0-0-0 C+
Desharnais 1-0-0-0 C-

WINGERS (B-)

Cammalleri 50-22-18-40 A- *On way to 40 goals. Super, though lagging of late.
A Kostitsyn 40-12-13-25 B *More flashes of brilliance, but no major progression.
Gionta 29-13-9-22 A *Beautiful mix of grit and skill. Consistently stellar. Gutsy.
Pacioretty 49-3-11-14 D *All noise, no results. Impotent.
Pouliot 26-8-3-11 A- *Flashy. Highly skilled. May have found a home w/ Habs.
Moen 50-7-3-10 A- *Balls, balls, balls. As advertised. Rock on team of pansies.
S Kostitsyn 19-1-3-4 B+ *Fast, dynamic, skilled. Probably part of future package.
D’Agostini 34-2-2-4 F *Dreadful. Terrible. Sickeningly ineffective. Begging for axe.
Laraque 28-1-2-3 C- *Nice guy. Likes vegetables. Generally useless if not using dukes.
Wyman 3-0-0-0 D
Stewart 5-0-0-0 D

DEFENCE (C-)

Bergeron 43-10-15-25 C Wicked shot. Dreadful ‘D’. Trade/keep?
Hamrlik 43-5-13-18 B+ Tower this year when Markov out. Foot soldier.
Markov 15-3-11-14 A All-world ‘D’. Superb. Worthy of the Big Three.
Spacek 48-3-10-13 C- Overworked. Not hard enough. Wimpy. Trade.
Mara 40-0-8-8 D Not as rough and tough as fans thought. Flat-footed. Trade.
Gorges 50-3-5-8 B Plucky but often overmatched. Heart and soul player.
Gill 36-2-2-4 C Snowshoes. Worthy of Allan Stanley. Great on PK, though.
O’Byrne 24-0-1-1 B- Big, tough, at times mean. Needs to develop. Big potential.
Belle 2-0-0-0 C
Carle 3-0-0-0 C
Weber 3-0-0-0 C

GOAL (A-)

Price 2.69 .915 A- Taken a lot of heat this year…why? Montreal doesn’t deserve him.
Halak 2.64 .922 A- Will probably be dealt. Excellent young, Andy Moog-type goalie.

Generally I think you are on
But Halak has to go??
Come on
Everyone knows here I am a Price fan but even I can't say that.

He probably will be gone at some point... probably with an offer sheet

Sorry man, my mistake. I meant to have him in green as a 'might go'. Apologies. I've come to respect Halak's pluck of late, and would love for the Habs to be able to keep him. But between his career and Price's, I must say 'time to go, little guy'. So yeah, green it is. My mistake.

I kind of figured that you meant that.
I do agree, I would like to keep him but I just don't think that is realistic.
One of them will end up leaving at or by the end of the season.
I just see Price having a greater upside.

RFA

Maxime Lapierre: stay (Right handed. Speed. Hits. Size. Young.)
Sergei Kostitsyn: gone (trade or KHL imo)
Benoit Pouliot: ( )
Matt D'agostini: gone (for a 5th round pick?)
Greg Stewart: on the fence
Tom Pyatt: stays (though people are overrating him)
TJ Wyman: I must admit… I really don't know him!
David Desharnais: stays (Boucher always speaks highly of him)
Mathieu Carle: stays (he is a lot better than I thought he was! If he simplifies his game, he could become a Gorges with more offensive upsides.)
Carey Price: Halak or Price will be gone
Jaroslav Halak: see Price

UFA

Tomas Plekanec: Gomez' salary is a pain… I hope he stays
Glen Metropolit: out (Lapierre, White, Conboy… size and grits!)
Paul Mara: out (O'Byrne)
Marc-André Bergeron: on the fence… MAB is a force on the PP but we need to make room for Subban.
Alex Henry: gone… but I guess the Bulldogs need him?
Shawn Belle UFA VI: see Henry
Curtis Sanford: I think Desjardins will be the backup in Mtl next season; the Bulldogs need Gs… stays?

Pouliot and Price need long term contracts, rafter that bit of business I'd look at upgrading with some size and skill at C and adding some speed to our D.

The solutions could already be in the organization though? PK Subban is arguably ready for prime time and Pouliot was drafted as a C and prefers that position.

That allows us to trade Plekanec, Andrei, Sergei, Gorges and Halak to St. Louis for Backes, Conklin and their 2011 first (Sean Couturier). I would encourage Laraque to retire with a nice PR job and that frees up some money for a UFA signing. ie. Marleau. I would bring back Metro, MAB and sign Jamal Mayers as well, always liked that guy, even if he is a Leaf.

2010 Habs

Cammy-Pouliot-Backes
Marleau-Gomez-Gionta
Patches-Lapierre-Moen
Mayers-Metro-White

Markov-Spacek
Hamrlik-Subban
Gill-O'Byrne
MAB

Price
Conklin

How does Sergei get a better grade than Andrei? The kid has been pretty useless all season, and I'm a Sergei fan. I don't see how he could be more than a C.

When you say get rid of Pacioretty, do you mean send him to the minors or actually let him go?

Keepers:

RFA:
Lapierre, Sergei, Bergeron, Pouliot, Pyatt, Desharnais, Wyman, Carle, Price

UFA:
Plekanec, Belle, Sanford

Sanford will be signed as the number 1 goalie in Hamilton as Desjardins will be the Canadiens backup. Wyman, Carle and Belle will be signed but will start next season in Hamilton. I can see Pyatt and Desharnais on the fourth line in Montreal next year. Possibly Stewart too, I'm on the fence with him.

Gone: D'Agostini, Metropolit, Halak, Mara.

Gone, he played 82 games in the NHL, and he is obviously a bust

What about D'Agostini with his 88 NHL games experience, he is the worst player ever.

....

I hate the habs for bringing rookies with no NHL experience (wait a minute...)
