wow...

That thread should be merged BIG TIME in the Lounge thread as it is about a player not related to our team. Like Latendresse.

Mods, where are you when we need you!!!
No not really...It's a pretty big hockey story that makes for interesting conversation...

IMO if it was moved to the lounge there would be very little discussion about it because it is not on the front page..I for one don't visit the lounge and there are probably more like me....

No offense but if you don't agree with the thread why not just ignore it?

Further if it was moved to the lounge, you'd immediately see X new threads pop up about Kovalchuck cluttering the board even more.

Markov-O'byrne

Price-Halak

Now, I made the line up with having in mind that Plekanec AND both goalies signed an extension with the money saved. Who do you get to fill the empty roster spots? Minor leagues players or yet some other UFAs? If he doesn't sign, I don't like the fact that we have even less depth than before. And we also lose our 2nd best D-Man. Maybe it's just me.
You forgot Andrei Kostitsyn for starters. Where's Hammrlik on the defence? Also I'd put Halak ahead of Price at this point.

Deep down, both Kovalchuk and Grossman have to know the player is not getting the max contract of 20 per cent of the salary cap from anybody. Most of the teams who can afford it and might be willing to do it don’t have the cap room. Plus, it’s borderline impossible to win with one guy taking that much of your space. Personally, I think it came down to the captain saying, “If I’m going to take the risk that the franchise moves, I need to be paid for it.”

i don't get it..he got drafted by them, they had a slow nhl start and last year they made the playoff and now they could get in again but he rejected the biggest offer ever made to a nhl player?? i have never been a fan of complaining on hockey players because of their salary becaue i think they have made enough sacrifice in their youth but what in the hell is he thinking?? getting richer or making a team win the damn cup now im thinking of getting on the bashing side because moneytalk is killing our sport!!

I think its not money. As some people in the media reported he likes it in Atlanta but he is scared the team is going to relocate.

and what does a player like Joe Sakic has to say to this?? they moved the franchise from quebec to denver and won the cup the first year!! maybe i am overrating kovalchuk as an ''agent'' not as a player

Interesting - Eklund just posted a post on his blog that REALLY makes sense .. lol I know, weird.

He said in his opinion Kovalchuk will not get traded until after the Olympics and that a deal is not imminent. His reasoning is that a couple of his "sources" have told him they will not give Atlanta what they want to watch Kovalchuk get injured in the Olympics and never play a game for them.

Wow he turned those down? I highly doubt he gets a better offer than those the summer

Maybe he just doesn't want to play in Atlanta...maybe that should of crossed Waddell's mind.

This press conference from Waddell just looks like sour grapes...

It's not international ice. It's NHL sized.

I think it's just obvious he doesn't want to stay in Atlanta.

I bet he already has a KHL contract in his left pocket.

I imagine the Kostitsyns and Hamrlik were traded for Kovalchuk here, but Kovalchuk wasn't re-signed.
