Also, for the record, I wouldn't hate picking up Price but I'd rather have Halak.

I'm with you. I really hope Homer doesn't go after a goalie unless Emerys injury forces his hand. This team isn't built around goaltending. I'd rather see us getting a solid defenseman or cheap rental forward. We have a good enough team to win with an "average" goalie like Emery if the team in front of him play up to their true standard.

It sucks because going into this season he could have been had for a very reasonable return.

Philly has battled to get into a playoff position is it really worth chancing an injured goalie with the rest of your playoff hopes and cup run???

When you put a good roster together on paper, and you get the forwards backchecking, the D standing everyone up, the other team held to perimeter shots, etc. etc..............then yes, an okay goalie is just as good as a great goalie. Try playing to that standard against the best competition in the league for 4, 7 game series...just not a realistic standard.

Goalies are like cops. Nobody is really crazy about them, until you **** up and one turns up to save your ass.

Depends on pain tolerance, whether its a partial or complete tear, the work load involved, and style. A guy like Brodeur or Hasek who really aren't into deep, spread out butterflies that often could probably be okay with it for longer than a Niittymaki/Lundqvist/Varlamov type.

It's probably a complete tear if it is a tear it all, because you usually don't notice before it gets to that point. When I tore mine my five hole turned into a 25 hole because the motion involved in closing it hurt so bad that I had to force myself to do it, and that little hesitation was enough to get scored on. Then again I didn't get numbing shots and cortisone. If I had it might not have been as big of an issue.

If you had a light schedule and took some anti-inflammatories etc. etc. I guess you could play decently for a while. You're robbing Peter to pay Paul though. The more you play on it the more you grind on joint components that don't regenerate.

So to answer your question: I don't know.

Good God almighty if he ends up having a torn labrum we are seriously ****ed.
You think another team is going to help us out for free with our situation?
Biron may not cost that much, but Price or Harding? id be scared of the cost.

Harding is out with a hip injury as well. He is also currently receiving cortisone shots.

I would also prefer Roloson to Biron, as well. Not sure I want Biron coming back here after trying to suck us dry with $$$$$$ when he didnt deserve what was being asked!

What is Lehtonen's contract like?

Hopefully Emery will be able to ride it out. I like him more than any other option right now. Panic trade is a little scary...

Lehtonen hasn't played a game all season due to injury.

I believe he just came back and will be starting/on the market...

Just looking at options, no matter how bad they may be. Personally, I want Emery to ride through it (only if he can handle it). We shall see. One thing I do not want is to over pay for a goalie at this point...

Yeah, he just was recalled from his conditioning stint, but I want no part of another injury plagued goalie that costs even more than Emery.

Personally I'm not thrilled with our playoff hopes riding on the hopes that a popsicle stick and a wad of chewing gum can hold Emery's hip together, but to each their own. Some people are satisfied with average goaltending. I'd rather find a long term solution.

Disagree completely. Unless you're acquiring Vokoun, Miller, Luongo, Brodeur, or Lundqvist, you're acquiring an average goaltender.

...if you're trading for a young guy with potential, you don't know exactly what you're acquiring.

I'm not totally thrilled either, but there isn't much that I would rather have. I either want a cheap bandaid (if Razor can't hold up), or someone from Shafer's list....which would cost way too much! We're kinda trapped here. Roloson would hold us over and I think Halak is the real deal, but are either of them available? What would it take to get them? Would it be doable? Would Vokoun cost the future + what is his salary? These are my questions...

Don't want - Turco or Thomas. I know that much.

In terms of Price you're acquiring a promising young goalie who has the potential to be a Vokoun, Miller, Luongo, or Lundqvist.

At the age of 22:
Price has 121 starts and counting. His career save percentage is .912.
Miller had 15 starts. He didn't reach 121 career starts until late into his 26 year old season. His career save percentage at that point was .909.
Vokoun had 33 starts. He had 118 starts at the end of his age 25 year old season. His career save percentage at that point was .906
Luongo had 117 starts. His career save percentage was .915
Brodeur had 86 starts. He hit his 121 start during his 23 year old season. His career save percentage was .910 at the age of 23
Lundqvist had 0 starts. He become a NHL starter the next year when he was 23. He had 119 starts after his 24 year old season and a career save percentage of .919.

The simple fact is Price has had a great start to his career and there is no reason to believe that he won't be as good if not better than some of the goalies on this list. His career is off to a much better start than Vokoun and Miller. Lundqvist wasn't even in the NHL yet. His start is most comparable to Luongo's.

I won't bother to compare him to Brodeur because it's simply improbable that any one goalie would be that good, but not impossible.

I know goalies are unstable, but I think it's well worth the risk of acquiring a potential franchise goalie before he even hits his prime. I'ts a huge price to pay for sure, but again you have to give to get such a rare commodity.

For what it is worth, practice was canceled today so that may be why he didn't skate.

It really is amazing how many of us were right about how that was a bad signing.
