ATL fans are perfectly justified to find a different team, what an atrocious job of GMing.

In the past 2 years, he's traded Marian Hossa and Ilya Kovalchuk, 2 of the 10 best wingers in the game, Pascal Dupuis, a very good 3rd liner, and Salmela. In return he's gotten...

Angelo Esposito - Probably a bust.
Daultan Leveille - Probably a bust.
Colby Armstrong - 3rd line *******.
Niclas Bergfors - 2nd line ceiling.
Johnny Oduya - Regressing defenseman.
Patrice Cormier - Borderline felon.
Late 1st round pick.

Just allow that to sink in.

Let it percolate.

BTW, Dupuis is better than every player he got back besides Bergfors.

My God.
This is a good post. Really makes you see how bad Waddell is.

Dude, one is a rental and the other had a deal in place.

On the bright side there is at least one GM in hockey dumber than Holmgren.

I thought it would be the Habs or Flyers...then Kypreos said he was coming to Philly and I knew we were out.

According to Devils fans (although it is after they traded him), he has had a not so good season.

Considering he has 4 points after 2 great seasons after signing a 3.5 million deal and that he was a part of Devils fans' trade proposals all season, I think that's fair to say, yes.

I mean, Oduya (based on this year) is also incredibly overpaid.

I don't see how Waddell could have done worse, I really don't.

Oh. Havent seen it posted, but also (supposedly) NJ and ATL will be switching their 2nd round picks during the draft. That was part of the deal between the 2.

So lets get this straight.

Penguins - Malkin & Crosby
Devils- Kovalchuk & Parise
Flyers- Richards & Carter

Which of these 3 pairings doesn't fit?

Until we get a real superstar we will continously fail fail fail fali fail fail fail fail

I do not see how he could have done worse.

He gains a 25-30 pick and downgrades a 30-35 pick to 55-60.

Just wow.

This is Cliff Lee from Cleveland to Philly bad. NJ just pulled off a robbery, hockey in Atlanta is officially dead.

I dont think ATL got too bad of a deal. Kovy is a UFA, and is Russian and definitely has offers from KHL. No one was going to bleed for that kind of Rental.

Odyua is a top 4 d man, Bergfors should be a top 6 winger. Cormier looks like a good checking line foward and they got a first round pick

See, I was gonna say New jersey because one is a rental and they're both left wings.

Totally agree. We would have to have given up JVR to get Kovy and people saying we should have traded JVR for him are nutty. We can't afford to resign Kovalchuk so he'd walk...and then JVR will be a star for the next 15 years and those same people desperate for Kovy will be crying saying how stupid homer was to do that...lol

"Richards + Carter" is probably a lot closer to "Parise + Kovalchuck" than people will say. I for one think either of our guys is as good or nearly as good as Parise, and not too far behind Kovalchuck when you consider each's defensive abilities.

They got nobody who can help them now, and no one who will help them in any sort of serious role down the road.

Even Wayne Gretzky only won the Cup 4 times.

Carter and Richards are definitely better defensively, but offensively its nowhere close. Carter is a one trick pony and Richards gets points with very little skill and a whole lot of heart.

Note to Flyer fans: Jeff Carter was never offered, or I'm sure Atlanta would have jumped at him. Flyers wouldn't move vanRiemsdyk either. 1 minute ago from web
