Habs - Oil

Would fans of either go for this.......

Price+Gomez+SKost+Spacek

for

Gilbert+Horcoff+O'Sullivan+Brule

....both teams take on salary (bad contracts) and both teams get young talent that would help each teams weakness??

....IMO to rid themselves of "Gomez" contract and to acquire young talent, like Brule+O'Sullivan, who could fit. Maybe I am wrong, but SKOst is NOT = Brule (SKost had a very good game last night, but he is at this point, a marginal prospect - and one, like Latendresse, Chipchura etc. that is on the HABS bubble - he does have chemistry with Gagner and might have more value with EDM than he does with any other team??)

Skost has skill and a great tenacity. I suggest you actually watch a player and understand their circumstances before you make a judgement.
Btw, didn't all of Oiler nation want to trade Penner last year? Seems like you guys judge a players ability TOO soon. How's Schremp doing in the long island? LOL

Unless Gilbert turns it around, he'll become another ****** contract.

Though, he should turn it around.

Brule would be a nice player for the habs. Another 05er, and he does play a physical game, even though he's on the smaller end.

If you want Price, we want Hemsky or your first round pick (i'm not silly, i don't talk about a 1 vs 1 trade...).

We just don't have the same opinion. I think, with the Price' potential, if a team want him, they must to give a first liner foward or d-man.

But he has a point, Price is a potential ELITE franchise goaltender who already has 3 seasons of Pro hockey at 22 with all kinds of MVP, All-Star and championships to his credit. He has a ways to go yet but he should reach his potential. He was also the 5th overall pick in '05. So it makes sense to ask for ONE of those two assets, in the case of the 1st rd pick Hall/Seguin are great prospects but they have done nothing to prove themselves as Pros yet. They likely will but my point is Price is more established and still has that potential to be the cornerstone of a franchise for many more years.

If by brutal, you mean overpaid, yes by all means.

But Gomez is a million miles from brutal.

While getting rid of Gomez’s contract would be near the top on my lists of “wants” for the Habs, I think if we added Price as a sweetener to a trade, we’d need to get a better bad contract back than Horcoft. Someone like a Brad Richards (kinda overpaid, but a very good player) would be a better target IMO. No idea if Dallas would be at all interested however.

according to some reports

Spacek going anywhere near Edmonton won't work

Really not worth it. Gomez has not been that bad and overall just not enough to give up Price.

Gomez hasn't been brutal. He has been pretty much the same as he always has been. Which is actually pretty decent. If he was considered to be our 2nd line center getting paid $4M or so a year, we'd be pretty happy with him. He's a good player.

One of the few proposals on this forum that makes you think before jumping to conclusions. Decent for both teams, really.

1) Edmonton probably won't take Price as we have Khabi for 3 more years and we've got 2 prospects we're trying to figure out to be the backup in JDD & DD

2) Brule is much better than S-Tit

3) Spacek is not welcomed back in EDM and I would rather keep Gilbert than add Spacek

4) Gomez and Horcoff are both bad contracts, and Gomez is the more skilled player, but given all the young kids that are coming up expected to be top 6 players, I'd rather let Horcoff be an overpaid 3rd liner/PKer than have Gomez come in and take ice time away from Gagner as the #1 C.

As on Oiler fan - I'd definately say yes. Not sure if Montreal fans would agree though.

I wouldn't... I mean, we lose Gomez's contract... but wait, we get Horcoff's back, no help there. So there's nothing in the rest of the package that would remotely motivate me to part with Price. There's no player coming in from Edmonton in that deal that we *need*. Gilbert, Brule, and O'Sullivan are decent players. But you can get decent players in a variety of ways and it wouldn't be wise to give up a hoped-for franchise cornerstone like Price for them.
