Mike Van Arsdale by an anaconda choke I believe.

Nah it's Gomi. Fedor has fought at least 3 times in the US. I saw him beat Sylvia and Arlovski and he also fought Coleman in the infamous "bring your kids to the ring if you lose" match at PRIDE 34 (I think it was 34)

It's not Gomi, I dont think he's ever won a fight before in North America (and if he has, he's not the guy I was thinking of).

correct

OK, this guy with 30+ wins and only one in NA... it's not Wanderlei, (2 wins), Fedor (4 wins), Gomi (0 wins)... were you thinking of Overeem? He has two wins too though, he's beaten both Buentello and Belfort on Strikeforce shows.

Other than that I think Gilbert Yvel qualifies, he's only fought three times in NA total, beating Pedro Rizzo and losing to Barnett and dos Santos... somehow I don't think that's who you were thinking of though.

I have a feeling you're thinking of someone whose one win came in Canada, since you specifically said North America, but how about Akihiro Gono? 31-15-7 and I believe his only win in NA is against Tamdan McCrory

EDIT: How about Sakurai too? It looks like his only win in NA came against Mac Danzig at Pride's Second US show.

Damn you're right, I really thought he came over with PRIDE more than just his NC to Diaz. Odd.

Total brain fart by me there. I was only thinking of his fight with Rogers. Can't believe I forgot about those other 3 wins.

Haha now you're pulling names out that I didn't even think about when I made the question. The (answer) guy I was thinking about was Yvel who just beat Pedro Rizzo on the Lashley/Sapp card. Overeem would have been another good guess but he has 2 wins in North America.

Clue - he was announced as commish the same night a fighter debuted as an injury replacement in a dark match. A fighter who later went on to become a hall of famer.

EDIT - maybe that alone is as much of a trivia question, if not moreso.

I'm pretty certain that the fighter you are referring to is Randy Couture, but I can't for the life of me remember the commish's name.

Is it Bob Meyrowitz, the dude who went on to bring us the glory that was YAMMA PIT FIGHTING?

Nope, not Randy. I don't think Randy's debut was a dark match.

And no, not Davie or Meyrowitz. The guy I'm thinking of was announced as commissioner about midway between the UFC's inception and the Zuffa purchase.

For anyone who watched the first ~20 UFC events, you'll know exactly who this guy is.

Another clue - the headline fight tonight was supposed to happen way back when, on this event (EDIT - or maybe this should be another trivia question all to itself as well, haha).

Well you said it was about halfway between the UFC's inception and the Zufaa purchase so I'm guessing the fighter who became a hall of famer is Chuck Liddell since all the other hall of famers debuted in the first few years of UFC except for Randy who already know isn't the answer. No idea on the commish though.

I have UFC 17 on dvd (Liddells first UFC, haven't watched it yet though, i'm only on UFC 11 right now). I scanned through it and they announce the commentator Jeff Blatnick as the commish.

Yep! I kind of gave it away a bit, I guess.

Ding, ding, ding! There ya go. Blatnick indeed.

UFC 17 was also where Coleman and Couture were originally scheduled to fight, but Couture pulled out due to injury.

Which in turn led to Coleman nearly getting decapitated by Pete Williams foot.

Here's one: of all the fighters on the UFC's current roster, who has the most MMA wins, and who has the most MMA losses?

Hint: they fight in the same division, and both are below .500 in the UFC.

A Pete Williams that went on to lose a decision in Ultimate Brazil to a walking answer to MMA trivia questions.
