Leafs need a true #1 Centre

Toronto is in dire need of a young #1 centre for the present and future, who do you think they should pursue and how would they get him?

Probably not. How about a young #1 Center though?

That's right, you already have Kadri. Burke didn't want to get greedy and also have Hall or Seguin so he traded the pick for Kessel who can play with Kadri next year.

Good man, that Burke is.

In all honesty, if toronto is looking a #1 center for now/future, they'll need to base a deal around kadri. Which isn't a good idea so Burke should be patient with this team and let kadri grow into it.

Plekanec, Peverley, Pavelski, and Jordan Staal are some guys I would look at.

I would make a deal for someone like one of these guys.

Look for a stop gap #1B/2 type till Kadri comes up, or sign a #1 during FA. We can't afford a young #1 center man without dealing Kabs, which i don't think we should do.

No, he is sayings Kadri is SUPPOSED to be our number one guy. He certainly has the ability, and we need to see before we start trading big pieces for a new one. Everyone knows he isn't a number now.

I obviously don't believe he is a number one center in theNHL right now. But when you draft a guy that high and he is lighting it up in the minors like Kadri is you would think it is in his potential to be a number one guy. If you didn't think he had the potential you wouldn't draft a hopeful second round line that high.

I know he is ancient but maybe the leafs should look to getting Brind'Amour. He would not cost anything, trade van ryn(hes on injured reserve) and in return we get a 2nd for this years draft and a prospect from Hurricanes for taking on Brind'Amours contract(he is owed 3 million next year). He is still good at taking face-offs and a warrior(Burke type player). Plus he doesn't own the Hurricanes any loyalty after being stripped of the C. He had a clause in his contract that allowed him to veto the removal of his C, he choose not to exercise it-shows the type of character he is. Yes he is over the hill but this is a way to stockpile some talent and have a capable face-off man until Kadri is ready.

I do not see anyone on the free agent list that the Leafs have a realistic shot at getting for a 1st line center this summer. The only asset that Leafs really have that could land a 1st line center is Kaberle. If we traded him we would be lacking a true puck moving defensemen- we would be filling one hole while creating another one.

This is just speculating not to be taken seriously, so don't get all fired up.

I don't think there is a #1 center available for them to land without mortaging what they have for a present and future... I think their best bet is finding a veteran #2 center who has the reputation of being good with young players so they have someone that can mentor Kadri properly

this. why not a vet for the moment till Kadri is ready (if he`ll ever be, who knows?!)
i think they`ll try to get Marleau but i dont think even SuperGM Burke can get him to TO so the safest and less expensive thing is to try to get a guy like...I dont know...Andy McDonald?!

doesn't even have to be that good of a center IMO, let's be honest the Leafs are going to be rebuilding for at least another year... right now the development of their younger players should be the priority with winning secondary

i bet a deal could be made with the stars for Riberio. Dallas will look to cut some payroll and they already have an #1 centre in richards plus a ton of great young forward prospects.

I would love Brind'Amour on the Leafs, but, i doubt he'll leave Carolina ...he's a top notch guy, who can still play, and teach the youngsters

Burke doesnt want Riberio. Although stranger things have happened.
