Yawney talks about his time with the Chicago organization, the "penny-wise, pound foolish" type hoops he had to jump through (e.g., no assistant coach in AHL) and how his firing went down. He'd like another crack at being a NHL head coach. Says the reputation of defensive minded is not wholly correct (his AHL teams lead league in shots).

Best part about this article is that they have the wrong Sutter getting fired before hiring Yawney. It was Brian, not Brent.

Mike Grier's agent says he's been contacted by a number of teams. Including Wings, an organization he thinks is good.

Boyle is one of those hockey personalities that you can tell he just has a deep love for the game. Guys like Roenick, Thornton and even Pavelski have this same personality as well.

One of these guys does not fit. (Hint: it's the bolded name.)

What? Joe's problem isn't his love for the game, it's his houdini act come playoff time.

Dan Boyle is so cool. Does he still own his house in Florida (has he moved his family out here yet)?

Thornton definitely loves the game. Thornton just doesn't have that personality that has a noticeable hate for losing. It sucks for him sure but he doesn't hate it/fear it like all the greats do.

Yes, and yes. He bought a house in the LG area at the end of the season.

I disagree, I think he takes losing a lot more personally than other players do, and just internalizes it.

Heh.

If Joe Thornton weight 300lbs and had a beard, he'd be Santa Clause.
Eternally jolly to the end. The premature end that is.

What he projects is not someone who internalizes those feelings because he was just as happy go-lucky at the SotS that he was at any other public event. Someone who internalizes it tends to be sarcastic in those scenarios where criticism is expected and he displayed none of that.

I like hearing that a lot of the players are heading to SJ early to get on the ice and work together. Sounds like captain's ice will be worth attending when I come down on sept 7-10.

If your looking just at the top 6, and at just a tweak (single player move) who gets the shaft? It's not Thornton. It's not Seto. It better not be Pavelski.

That leaves Marleau (not a tweak imo, he's the captain)
Clowe (just signed, sign & trade I guess)
or Michalek (who's agent said he isn't in play)

Now I'm confused, not sure what to expect at this point.

That statement wasn't from DW or anyone in the org. It was advice from outside. It coincides with what I have been saying about what they should do and is backed up by past transaction behavior of cup-winning teams. I don't know whether the org and DW have bought that advice.
