What a plot twist. NJ of all places.

I wonder what they sent back to Atlanta.

Interesting that they trade one of the best players in the NHL inter-conference. They did the same with Hossa too. You don't see many teams making major trades like that.

because the board is getting kind of cluttered with trade deadline topics, I'm going to lock this at the end of the night, and we can move discussion over to one of the other threads, which will become the de facto deadline thread until close to the day of the deadline (because I do plan a deadline day GDT)

SJ > Atlanta WRT possibly making it to SC *this* season.

IMHO that's why Manny is here.

Manny didn't go to Atlanta because he actually wanted to play in front of fans on a regular basis ... Atlanta's attendance is pathetic. So is their GM.

NJ really added a huge contributor to their cup run - it has to make them one of the favorites out east as a result.

I can't help but feel bad for Atlanta for not getting much back in legit current players - only time will tell who won this deal.

I think New Jersey is the team to beat out East now, other than maybe Pittsburgh. Devils addressed one of their few flaws in this deal by acquiring an offensive stud in Kovalchuk. This deal should help them a ton. Will take a lot of pressure off Parise/Langenbrunner/Zajac.

This trade is HUGE for the Devils. Any time you acquire a superstar for a middling package your team wins. But it's not like the Devils aren't without holes: their defense and center depth could use work. The Caps and Devils have a similar chance to take the East now; Pittsburgh isn't quite in it unless they get a winger for Crosby.

Can't see the Caps making it with their d-corps and goalies. I don't like Pitt's roster very much but Crosby/Malkin/Fleury seem to be able to carry that team on their back.

you said it. you especially really have to feel for the fans in Atl. This trade is so one sided it`s awful (as long as Jersey can re-sign Kovy.). Lamo. was probably ecstatic to get rid of Cormier after the bonehead of a season he has had. Lamo. never tolerates clowns like that, just tosses out the trash and that`s exactly what he did with Cormier. Plus, Jersey`s 1st round pick will DEFINATELY NOT be a high one.
