So trading Bergfors for a player who could be a rental is now palatable for Devils fans? I thought he was a "baller"?

Bergie will be a very solid NHL player, but right now if the devils can add kovy it turns the devils offence from middle of the pack to one of the better ones in the East. Gotta give to get my man....

I completely agree with you and was referencing a discussion a couple months back where a few posters were adamantly opposed to giving up Bergfors. He'll be a solid second liner, but you pull the trigger if the trade makes you a real contender.

I hope the Devils get him even though im a Capitals fan for that exact reason. Kovalchuk and Parise on the same line would be something the NHL hasn't had since Gretzky and Messier. With Kovalchuk you have the best sniper in the league (yah thats right Ovie) and Parise the best in the league at getting rebounds and putting them in the back of the net. this would be a tandom for the ages. even if Kovalchuk doesn't score on his first shot if there's a rebound 9 out of 10 times Parise would put it in the back of the net anyways. I hope Kovy will be a Devil. If they do I might start watchig there games!

Sorry i didnt realize that, you are right.

This makes me happy to be a devils fan, I know now that Lou is willing to make an impact deal because he truly believes this team is a contender. If the Devils lose a first round pick, a prospect PWF, a top 4 D-man, and a top 6 skilled winger to make a push for Lord Stanley then so be it.

I think that's a fair proposal, but it doesn't give Atlanta a ton of current NHL talent. The 1st (and in the rumour, Palmieri) is futures and Bergfors really isn't ready to play big minutes from what I've seen. Oduya would be a great acquisition for Atlanta.

So I think it's fair, but I'm not sure Atlanta would do it. It's a tall task to trade Kovalchuk and all the while ice a competitive team, even in the East.

I have a hard time believing Lou is really going after someone like Kovi. But with the injuries and Marty at 37 I think he has to at least do his best to make a deal .

For Kovalchuk or a player of similar stature? I find that hard to believe.

Anybody who wouldn't include Bergfors in a deal for Ilya freakin' Kovalchuk, needs their head examined. I love Bergie and have pulling for him for years, but I do that deal in nanoseconds.

Its a pretty good trade. We need to win another cup before Marty retires. With Kovy we are favorites to win it all. Ps. I hate ODuya

im surprises honestly. Everybody seems to like this rental. I dont think that Kovy will signs with Devils after. Its risky for me. anyway to be honest, I dont think the Devils will go far in the playoffs only because Brodeur will be completly burned. He plays all the game and will have the same kind of playoff than last year. Personaly, I would not give that much for a 2 months rental

Grammar aside, if he has the same type of playoffs as last year we stand a good chance.

Hypothetical trade for Scott Niedermayer. You fellas really loved Bergfors. I guess not scoring a goal for over a month dampens the hype a bit.
