I think DL should keep him. He and Zus are great together. DL should look to bring someone to bring in to play with them. If they can't resign him as July 1st comes near, DL can trade his rights. I'd like to see Fro get a shot at the playoffs with this team. He deserves it with the number of bad years he's gone through
A player who's going to become a FA at the end of the year, who's difficult to trade to other teams because of that status, thus limiting the return?
That's what I meant by "same situation".
"same situation" being a Russian forward who is a pending UFA.
that's about it. all thing being THAT equal, other than being Russian, Frolov's situation is similar to a number of players throughout the league.
the Ilya Kovalchuk thing was far FAR different... a very unique situation. you're talking about a General Manager being compelled to move his franchise player... and captain.
If it was me, I would offer a 4 year deal with a cap hit of around $3.5M. I know he can get more on the open market, but if he doesn't want to stay for that then let him walk.
Front load it a little for him, something like 5-4-2.5-2.5

Yeah I hear you, but I guess that's why I called it a "mini-Kovalchuk" deal.....
I get the sense that there's still a stigma around the league that Frolov is a locker room pain in the ass based on the healthy scratch/benching in the beginning of the season. They talked about it at length on THN and made frolov look really bad. I don't think people really understand frolov's worth like most kings fans... other people will look at the numbers and I don't think they fully see how valuable he actually is.
For a 3rd line guy with 2nd line PP minutes, i think his numbers are decent... sure he's had trouble finishing, but that doesn't cancel out how valuable he's been to this team in cycling/forechecking/groundgame that frolov brings. He's also one of the best passers on this team.
This notion around the league that frolov's a headcase and his lowerish point production might work in LA's favor to resign him. I am a huge frolov fan and i hope we CAN resign him after this year, i don't see the team trading him before the deadline, especially with the position the kings have put themselves in.

i'd actually liken it more to the situation Don Waddell now has with Maxim Afinogenov... and even that is pushing it a little because i still don't think Atlanta is getting to the post-season.
