Thank you Ilya

Dear Ilya,

Thanks for a great 8 years, I wish you the best in New Jersey and will always cheer you when your return to Philips Arena.

It would be awesome that you could one day return to Atlanta in a thrashers jersey to either play again for the thrash or see your jersey raised to the rafters.

We'll miss you buddy. I hope your time with the devils helps round out your game, and come back home. We miss you already. *HUGS*

Loved watching him play. I hope he comes back in the summer. If not, I hope he stays in the NHL b/c he is such a join to watch. Not many like him.

No offense, but if a superstar on the Sharks turned down an offer like the one that was reported for Kovalchuk, the player would be booed to no end here.

Fine, fine memories of Kovy as a Thrasher. Though the last few months were tough as the question became larger and larger, there are far too many good memories... even if the team didn't do well. Nothing wrong with moving on (at least for now... wink wink).

Thank you Ilya for the electrifying goals, goals, goals, and tons of them...with some killer hattricks, boston, ottawa back-to-back, the 4 goal game against TB, the comeback games earlier this season..................basically shouldering the load of the Thrashers from 2003-4 and some seasons onward, bearing the burden of many not so well built teams and bringing excitement to the fans. Playing on a busted knee for games a few sesaons ago and even scoring a goal against NJ @ the Rock when you clearly had a messed up knee...., and scoring the shootout goal to help win the game.... Fighting McCabe, and that puke Matt Cooke, the Crosby point, edmonton breakaway goal.......the illegal curves with Hartley barking at the trainig staff to run down the tunnel to hide the sticks...

I'll remember the 5 point night against Carolina last season, even the disasterous playoff games @ MSG which I was able to attend (both of them). So many memories.. the team fed through the energy when on his game.

Maybe you'll be back as a Thrasher, but if not - thank you!

For the time being, I'll have to wear my Thrashers Kovalchuk 3rd jersey to the NJ games this season, if I get to catch many.

Good luck, and perhaps come back and help Atlanta franchise build up to respectability..................... (please? )

So, we're jerks for booing Heatley, and idiots for not booing Kovy?

I'm going to miss Kovy, he was the reason why I followed the Thrashers all the way back from 03.

WOW! Just saw the interview on NHL on the FLY.....

Ilya...."I'll always live in Atlanta. My kids go to school there, we won't sell my house."
"It was emotional telling the players goodbye, they all were there, it was hard."
"I was a teenager coming to Atlanta, lots of good times."
"I wish the team well, I have already looked at the schedule to go back on April 6"
"I hope we play Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs."
"I was a Thrasher for 8 years, it was good, I thank them for everything."

His agent is from Jersey....I think Grossboy had a lot to do with him not budging. Kovy always won his negotiations, I think Grossboy saw the chance to blow up the free agent market and probably the NHLPA had some pressure on him to go for the stars on this contract to set the tone.

I have a weird feeling that he may try to get back to Atlanta, ala Tkachuk. If we lose Kubina, Kozlov.... we still have a ton of money.

Good luck Kovy, see you April 6. We'll save your number for next season.

Good find, Chucky, good find....

Yeah his agent has his offices in a very affulent area where I went to college (not in NJ, in Westchester county, NY area).....

Losing Kubina will hurt, but I hope Pavel is in on the secret deal for Kovy to comee back and will stay a Thrashers ..one of the best defensemen this team has ever seen.

I think this hasn't really hit him yet. I really don't think he wanted to leave and hopefully he will tell Grossface to take a hike at the end of the season.

From an Ilya Kovalchuk rookie card:

"One of the most exciting young players to enter the NHL in quite some time, Kovalchuk has megastar quality written all over him. Players like Kovalchuk come around once every decade and you can bet this Russian star will live up to all the hype."

Thanks for the great times Kovy. I've watched you from day one and it's always been a joy. Best of luck. A truly sad day for Thrashers fans.
