Alexei Ponikarovsky to Ottawa

It's the unthinkable: a Leafs and Sens trade.

What would it take for Ottawa to acquire Ponikarovsky? They could use another scoring winger going into the playoffs, and Ponikarovsky is a solid 30-30 guy who is defensively responsible.

Ideally I think Toronto would want a pick, probably a 2nd rounder like they got for Antropov, but would the cost go up because 1) he'd move within the division and 2) because he'd move to Ottawa of all teams?

Does OTT have cap room. I thought they were tight..like 1.5M tight or something?

Even less than that I believe.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, if we can somehow find a way to have the room.

wouldn't Poni's cap hit only be like $4 - 500K at this point in the season?

Poni cap hit is 2.1M so OTT would have to dump salary somewhere. Start with Winchester. I think he would do well in Leafs org.Only because I know we aint gettin foligno. Then just dump Kelly somewhere and you will have room

ottawa can take poni on now without trading any salary back.

i cant see us paying winnie and a 2nd. I could see winnie and a 3rd going, or a 2nd and a prospect.

Ottawa would have to pay more than other teams, just b/c it's Ottawa. But i could see us dealing Poni if that's not a problem. So we are talking 2nd + a good prospect (and we could take back a small ufa/rfa dump if need be)

Due to injuries, the Sens have around 300k to play with. Not much room for anything unless they get Cheechoo off the books.

A solid 30-30 guy? He's never had more than 23 goals, and only once had more than 30 assists.

No way he gets Foligno, and Kelly is a more useful player in the playoffs, so I don't see us just "dumping him somewhere" to make room for Alexei freaking Ponikarosvky.

The Leafs can pawn him off to someone else, as I have no doubt they will. There are better options for the Sens.

That's fair. I'm not sure Murray would do it because Foligno was starting to get going prior to his injury, but I'll admit to that being a fair deal for both sides.

Wilson doesn't need Cheech..Wilson needs a Fisher or a Speeza

Kaberle and Poni for Fisher or Kaberle, Poni, Kadri, Stefanovich, for Speeza

GTFO, NO, NO, NO. Trading a 22 year old that had 17 goals last year for a rental. Especially for a rental that has not broken the 24 goal mark. Murray is not this dumb

No cap space for Ottawa, we're around 500k left. Cheechoo would need to go the other way.

Good thing Ponikarovsky is a left-wing, then.

Also, there is no way in hell Murray trades Foligno for a rental.

Agreed. The biggest possible way of getting rid of one of these in Winchester.

Spezza: Franchise center
Fisher: One of the best defensive forwards in the league, also one of the best 2nd line centers
Kelly: One of our best Penalty Killers, could trade him for cap reasons.
Regin:
Winchester: Good PK, rugged winger/center. Throws the body, can actually fight.
