Prospal - what to do with him

Prospal is currently an absolute steal at 1.1M per year. He's an UFA at the end of this campaign. Is it too early to be thinking about what to do with him next year? His salary on the open market obviously has gone up - how much should we be looking to resign him for and for how long? I'd say 3M for 2 years is as high as we should go.

I think you have to resign him and I don't think there's any reason to believe he won't take a similar contract...a pay raise, but still nothing drastic. 1 year 1.6 mil I'd say.

What do you think the odds are he re-signs here if we do trade him at the deadline?

.

I would tell him we are going to trade him and then re-sign him on 07/01/10

And if he doesn't like that, then we do not have to resign him, but he should be traded.

It's nice that he's playing well, but this is an on and off kind of player and he's playing well in an on year...no surprise there.

Additionally he's playing for anothe rcontract and should he get 60+ points after missing 7 games, then he's not signing on the cheap here.

The best thing to do would be to trade him while his value is high.

I can easily see somebody offering him more for 1 year, especially if he continues the 60-65 point pace he's on.

They should definitely trade him at the deadline, that's for sure.

Doubt Glen would do it, though, "we're still in it."

I'm not really sure if they should re-sign Prospal. He's turning 35 in a few weeks and there are times when he looks exhausted, and he's not sharp defensively.

Prospal probably shouldn't be getting top line minutes every game, but I don't think Torts can resist the temptation of not putting him on there. Kind of like Renney with Shanny, when it was clear he was no longer a top 6 player but was still playing in the top 6 every game. If Torts is willing to put Prospal on the 2nd or 3rd line next season, I would consider re-signing him.

At the deadlineif this club is more than 4 points out of a playoff spotI think you have to move him. His value is higher than just about anyone elses here for the contract. I think its safe to say he could command a 2nd round pick, or a mid level prospect.

What about sending him to Pheonix for Mueller at the deadline?

If this team is within 3 or 4 points at the deadline I think Sather is going to ride it out and keep him.

For next season if the contract can be renegotiated at less than $2.5 I would resign him.

I don't know about that, he's known for being unable to put consecutive good seasons together, and he's also looked average at best when he's not on Gaborik's line. The only thing he'd have going for him is a weak FA class.

I think trade is the best option. Since his cap hit is so low the Rangers dump him for picks or prospect and not have to take any salary back.

I only wish Sutter had a first rounder this year he could give us for Propal.

Trade Prospal and Redden together for absolutely nothing. I'm serious.

LOL. Who would be dumb enough to take Redden's contract?

I don't think we could give Redden away packaged with anyone.

We should let Prospal go for next year, then bring him back the next. He has this every other year being good thing going for a while now.

Prospal and Jokinen should both absolutely be moved for Futures at the deadline.

Rozsival and Girardi also, if in MR's case we can shed some salary, and in DG's case if we can get a worthy return.

Nobody else we would like to get rid of is worth ****!

The last four games here in Feb will go a long way towards what we do coming back from the OLY break on MAR 2. If we continue to slide into the break I expect guys to be moved coming out of the break.

Prospal's value, IMO is directly tied to his discount rate. Once he makes what he's worth, then he's worth less. I would trade him. Second rounder, maybe a prospect? If he want's to come back for a similar deal this offseason I let him, but being that he's over 35, I'd only offer him a one year deal.

I agree with this...if all we are going to end up with is the 7 or 8 spot then why not build for the future?

I think even without Prospal and Jokinen next year we will still be a little better as long as the right guys develop, the right guys are brought up and the correct vets are brought in with the correct contracts...

honestly...i really think Sather is starting to see the error of his ways and is trying to correct them...

Deal him. Teams going nowhere, lets at least get a third rounder back.

That should exactly be the plan.

And he shouldn't have a problem with it, he will be headed to a playoff team and maybe get a chance at the cup. And then he can sign where he wants.

OK, how about Prospal, Jokinen and Redden for absolutely nothing? Think any GM will hook onto that?

You get two guys who can help you for a month and a half and possibly the playoffs, at very little cap hit, with the tradeoff being Redden and his stupid contract.

Costs you nothing from your current team though.
