what has he done that would lead people to believe he could be worth a 1st rounder? (the wording of ATLEAST--means you believe he could get a 1st rounder--Poni will end up on the 3rd line of a team he is traded to and I don't see a guy with no playoff games in 5 years and only cracking 60pts once and soon to be UFA with his pedigree getting a first)

Poni will get what Antropov got last year at the deadline last year

No he didn't. He had 30 goal seasons before Thornton, injuries are what ruined him.

What don't you understand? Dreger is not saying a 1st.

He is saying a 2nd +

What that plus is will depend on what Burke is looking for.

lol in what language does the worst AT LEAST mean a 1st rounder? It means at least a 2nd and possibly another pick/prospect/roster player. There are alot of teams looking for a BIG forward, and playoff experiece is vastly overrated.

it kinda goes like this, with kovalchuk on jersey, teams like pittsburgh, wash, and others might feel the need to make an answering move, but all these teams are high in the standings, meaning their picks have less value. A team trying to make the playoffs (Nash for ex) then offers their 2nd. We tell the other teams that we have a better offer, and they needs to add a prospect to even it out. If they don't then we take the other 2nd.

Ponikarovsky's value is the same now as it was last year, the same as antropov and moore last year, and that's a 2nd.

Hence Dreger's comment of at least a 2nd, if it was at most, then you're saying his value is a 3rd and someone might overpay with a 2nd, when his value is a 2nd, and someone might overpay with a 2nd +

I doubt it. Poni can play in any role on any line, Antropov can't. He is probably the Leafs best penalty killer and has the best +/-. Antropov would also disapear for weeks at a time. When he wasn't producing he was pretty useless.

Eh?
2nd + conditional 3rd if u re-sign him.

MTL's 2nd might be higher than any other bidder.

i much rather see him moved for aprospect than a pick...

id love for him to go to phoenix for maclean(prospect).

maclean is someone i really want to see toronto pick up i think hes gonna be a
30+goal scorer 60+point guy in teh nhl very soon...i think hes nhl ready now...but for some reason phoenix doesnt seem very high on him....but i think hes a great prospect hes 6'2 200+lbs winger....he lite up the ohl scoring 47goals and 100 points in his draft year..then 61 goals and 119 points the next year....so far in the ahl he scored 21 goals and 40 point slast year as a 20 year old and this year threw just 46 games he allready has 20 goals and 35 points...he was a 2nd rounder 32nd overall in 2007....he would be a great pcik up for toronto...especially for poni

Here is Bob McKenzie's thoughts on Ponikarovsky.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=308868

McKenzie: "Alex Ponikarovsky from the Toronto Maple Leafs because I think the price for Whitney is going to be too high. I think Ponikarovsky can be had for a second round pick and he's a big guy that can score some goals and fit the mold of what they need on the wing in Pittsburgh."

Any chance he'll be re-signed? He's a real solid 2nd line winger.

Dreger reported this? First i've heard of it. The point is Dreger has sources and you do not. I'll take his opinion over yours thanks.
