I think (Phaneuf) will thrive there. Hes got that type of personality loves to be in the spotlight, centre of attention, said McCabe, whose outspoken nature earned him that title in Toronto from 2000-2008. Hes a great player. Hes gonna bring a lot to that team, for sure.

nice words from McCabe, always liked him, but his time was up in Toronto, and he knew it.

McCabe was decent when he was here. But too much was expected of him to contribute, and sometimes he just couldn't handle the pressure.

McCabe and Kaberle were generally very good together offensively.

I liked McCabe a lot during his 05-06 season, which was possibly one of the best from the blueline in franchise history.

What I noticed so far from Phaneuf, is that he seems to use his reach to his advantage when taking on opposing forwards down low.

He was stick checking very effectively last night and playing a simple game.

Aside from the one bad read that led to the Ponikarovsky penalty, he's been solid back there.

Hopefully the PP can start to click a bit more, as they've looked sloppy (IMO) the past two games in terms of their set up.

maybe Burke can reunite McCabe and Kaberle in Florida by trading Kaberle to the Panthers for a package of Kaberle and Grabbo for Horton, Oreskovich, and a 2nd rounder?

And the bad read that led to the first Devs goal.

As always well said ACC. I cringe when the boo-birds get on McCabe when he is in town. Half of them (probably most of them) have absolutely no idea why they are booing.

But McCabe figures Burke has the Maple Leafs heading back in the right direction, even though he has no plans to return to the fishbowl for a second stint in blue.

“I had seven years of it,” he said. “That was plenty.”
It sure was, Bryan...it sure was.

McCabe says it though as if he has a choice (and if he has a NTC, then hee. he does), but i mean if he doesn't and Burke wants him and the trade is there, you'll be here. Silly Brian McCabe.

Most Boobirds, I reckon know that he was here, and then he wasn't here. so they boo. Which is stupid.

McCabe was great until they started to enforce the rules. Then his defensive mistakes were magnified - it's harder when you can't can-open or clutch and grab anymore.

Vik would love to come back to T.O.

I grew up with the girl he's sleeping with over the summer and he went to high school with me, lol.

Phaneuf would be a bit more of a handful for Chara but I agree, no sense fighting him and risking an injury. Thing that is often ignored about the Chara/McCabe fight is that Chara injured his shoulder while tossing McCabe around...was not serious but he did miss a game or two because of it.

You mean change the rules. The NHL was enforcing the rules the whole time, the changes they made effected McCabe more than some others. That said, it did not stop McCabe from being an effective defenseman...he just had to alter his game.

I disagree, there was always an interference rule, yet they let it go so many times. The rules were essentially the same, but they were supposed to call everything as opposed to how so many refs just let everything go all the time.

Calgary was in Florida last night, so probably a reporter from Calgary asked him that question.

Interesting, since there are some obvious similarities between Phaneuf and McCabe: big shot, gritty/physical, tendency to make defensive miscues, big salary. I just hope that once the honeymoon is over, Phaneuf won't get the same treatment from Leaf fans that Bryan "enjoyed."
