Too bad for Leino in Detroit, I really thought he would've been a good candidate for Rookie of the Year. Hopefully a scene change helps him out.

If OKT makes it to your farm team you may be spared Wolfy! Win-Win!!

Posts like this just prove that people will hate on Eklund for anything. It's very possible he did pick Leino, but many major outlets had him as a candidate and many were pimping him as a potential Calder winner.

I think this is a good trade for both teams to be honest. I'll enjoy seeing more Leino, that's for sure.

Didn't Babcock call Leino the best player he's ever had to cut?

Well, traded two basketcases (OKT and wolfy) and a pick for possibly another. Let's see.

But hey, Detroit acquired an "olympic" defenceman

Leino has top-6 forward talent, but never really put it together consistently. Maybe he will in Philly. I see him going back overseas after this year is up, though.

If Leino can get back to where he was when he was called up last year, Philly wins this. If not, it's just trash for trash.

Ville Leino has been a huge disappointment for the Wings this season. He played great last year, showing heart and driving the net and hustling. He gets a 2yr/1.6M extension and I guess he just got lazy. He was supposedly working on his skating in the offseason but it's even worse now than it was last year. Despite all the injuries we'd had and the numerous chances he's been given, he couldn't claim a lineup spot. Scrap heap signee Patrick Eaves vastly outplayed him. Waiver pickup Drew Miller vastly outplayed him. AHL callup Justin Abdelkader vastly outplayed him. Hell, he couldn't even outplay mid-season signee Brad May! The kid has plenty of skill but I don't know if he got lazy after signing his contract or if last year was a huge fluke but he's been a shell this season and can't even claim a 4th line spot from Brad May even with 3 and 4 players injured ahead of him. Sad state of affairs really.

With Franzen back this week and Lilja seemingly on his heels the Wings needed both cap and roster room. Leino's 800k shipped out gives them room to add Franzen. Soon you'll see Brad May waived and probably Brett Lebda traded to make room Lilja. Tollefson is a non-factor since he'll be put on waivers and sent to Grand Rapids if he clears. Basically the Wings get a 2011 5th rounder for a player who turned out to be a big disappointment for us.

Best of luck Ville! I hope you can turn it around and show the form you did last season for your new team. I really hope he works out for you guys!

Garbage maybe, but Leino has talent. Tollefsen don't. Surprised anybody wanted him tbh.

I've honestly never heard of Leino before today. When was he drafted?

He wasn't. He was the Finnish league MVP two seasons ago and signed as a free agent. The Pens signed the Finnish scoring leader from that same season and he didn't pan out either.

Leino actually made me miss Kopecky.

That's as there is to be said.

Well you can't turn every player into a superstar. Detroit's success rate still looks pretty good.

Exactly. Isn't this just cap management going on here?

Leino IS a hole in your lineup. I'd be suprised if he made any impact whatsoever for your team this year. Well, any positive impact at least.....

This is a trade I think will only reap your team a benefit nesxt season. Philly needs to get in the kids face and give him a reality check. He's played soft, lazy, and disinterested all season. It's as if his whole goal was to earn and NHL contract and once he got it he just stopped trying. Maybe since it's a contract year next season he'll bust his ass and show the form he did last year. I really hope he does and plays well for you guys. Just don't expect anything this year. It's too late to whip him into shape for this season.

It's that simple.
Then Leino won't play this season.

Detroit is going to have the best AHL team in the world. Olympic defensemen OKT for Norway and Sergei Kolosov for Belarus!

Datsyuk (Russia)
Holmstrom, Kronwall, Lidstrom, Zetterberg (Sweden)
Rafalski (United States)
Filppula (Finland)
Tollefsen (Norway)
Kolosov (Belarus)
