That's a situation where a lot of people would fold, with a black cloud hovering for so long (ie JM Liles).
Not all Toronto fans want to kick him out. He has been a pretty consistent player for Toronto over the years. He scores some pretty clutch goals and is able to grind it out and dig with the best of em. The fans who propose him for a 2nd rounder just pisses me off because the value is no where near his worth to this team. I could see burke packaging him with another player like a Kaberle or Grabo to maybe upgrade center or wing. I hate the comment that Toronto has nothing up front, Sure we may not have star studded forwards but we have a great young core of players and building on that through trade and free agency this season should balance that out. PS our offense is not as bad as some may think these guys are able to put up some points.

Life is fun dude. Don't let your feelings about being a Leafs fan ruin it.

Oh and ya, i was probably the first person to use sarcasm to explain a point on these boards

Just to help you, the point was : you just can't estimate players value by their current total of points on the season (in this case Ponikarovsky has more points than BOTH Spezza and Karlsson)

You can't detect both sarcasm and logic? Ouch.

Comparing him to the non-buyers yields similar results.

Ponikarovsky would lead the Bruins in goal scoring and points. He would be second in shots on goal to Chara.

He would be 3rd on Sabres in points, ahead of Vanek and Roy, and first in goals scored.

Third in Avalanche scoring - first in goals and shots on goal.

Very similar numbers to a guys like James Neal.

Third on points behind Datsyuk and Zetterberg - first in goals!

Third in points on the Kings and second in goals - ahead of players like Dustin Brown.

Second in goals on the Rangers and third in points.

Third in points and goals behind Richards and Carter - ahead of players like Briere, Hartnell, Giroux, etc..

First in points and goals on the Blues...

Third in points on the Penguins behind the two best - tied with Malkin for goals with 19...

Considering the kid is 6 foot 4 and skates very well for a big man with an age of 29 - I'd have to say the comments on these boards about others underrating Toronto players seems fitting considering where he slots in on most teams.

you forgot to add he's a + player on the worse defenssive teams. and has been a plus player though out his career. Yes i'd like him to stay but we need a change, him and kaberle are the last pieces to go from before the lockout. If we trade him for a 2nd like antropov i'll be screaming at Burke.. This guy is more valuable than that. I rather have a body and a pick 3rd or 4th, 5th for him dependng on the player. No wonder why pitts wants him to play with Malkin. But what will pitts give us for him, I don't think they can get a deal done. As for the bruins trade no way i'd do it. maybe for a 1st back for Ponny. Ponny producing on a bad team is understatement cause he was playing with one ofthe best leafs teams in history before the lock out and still get close to 20 goals, his playing time went up after the lockout cause we let go half of our 1st and 2nd line players and you ask why we weren't doing well. (as for the Toronto team not having good players up front, is that why we are ranked like 13th in league goals for??? and weren't we in the top 10 last year??)

Looking at Walin getting back a second round pick from SJ, you have to think that Poni should be able to squeeze out a second and decent prospect at least.

Ponikarovsky is valuable and I hope we resign him. The Leafs may have something with the line of Poni-Bozak-Kessel....It's a prototypical line with a distributor (Bozak), a Shooter (Kessel), and a big body like Poni. However, if we can snag a late first for him, I think he's gone. Burke has said he wants to get into the first round but he doesn't see it happening though.

Edit- Might I add- Ponikarovsky is nothing like Moore- Ponikarovsky is better, plain and simple. You don't find many 6 foot 4 players out there who are comfortable on all lines and are basically guaranteed to put up 25 goals a season. He has some value.

The Bruins would be smart to make that trade. Not only do they get another big body with talent but the move makes the Leafs weaker for the rest of the year, giving them a better shot at a top-3 pick.

It's one of those Stupid things, you mean.

What a great argument - put a bad player on a bad team, and he will magically produce better than good players on good teams. Yeah, that makes a ton of sense!

Antropov and Steen really saw their offense plummet when they left, eh?

And why is it that everyone said Kessel wouldn't be able to produce this year coming to the Leafs, if every player is supposed to magically produce more when they play for bad teams?

Those Blackhawks that Calder and Bell were on were the worst offense in hockey. There literally was noone else who could score on that team.

This Leaf team is a good offensive team, with many players that can score. It's an absolutely different scenario, and not comparable at all.

People literally convince themselves that Poni will start producing LESS moving to a team where he might play alongside Malkin.

how stupid.

Thats my favourite

"someones gotta score on a bad team"

followed by

"Kessel cant score without Savard"

Well......which one is it?

If Poni will resign at a reasonable price, we keep him. If he wants over 3M, or seems reluctant to sign, we trade him for assets and take our chances on July 1st. AS long as we dont end up with nothing...

2nd + roster player or good-to-great prospect would do.

Always like this guy, maybe cause I'm a homer for Ukranian players, trade him to Pitts and reunite him with his countrymen Fedotenko.
But lets be reality here, he will probably get a prospect and a 2nd at most.

Poni plus side - good defensively , durable (unlike Antropov ) ,steady 20-25 goal -50 points, and should be heading into his best years as a pro

Cons - soft for his size and you always have the feeling he could do more

Personally I'd sign him but with the lack of forwards this trade deadline I can see why he is being shopped. I guess we know the Leafs brass evaluation of him soon enough.
