Should the Rangers Buyout Drury?

According to Capgeek.com, the cost of buying out Drury goes as follows:

2010-2011: $1,216,667
2011-2012: $4,216,667
2012-2013: $2,166,667
2013-2014: $2,166,667

This would be the cap hit for those years. You could use the savings to bring up a player who can produce at the same pace (he has 20 pts. correct?) In the long run it will save the team money. The only years it hurts are between 2012 and 2014 where his numbers would originally be off the books. 2011-2012 is where I am thinking mainly it makes sense. The savings of $2,833,333 could easily be spent elsewhere. Even if you only bring up a player who makes $850,000 you are still saving close to $2,000,000.

Whose on board?

We're not going to move, trade, or buyout the captain of the team.

The only high priced players that could potentially go are Rozsival and Redden.

Not worth the cap hit rather keep him for 2 more then have to pay him for 4.

just let the contract play out...buying out would be a worse situation since he would be on the books for longer than the rest of the contract.

I'd rather suck it up for 2 years then have the hit remain for 4.

Besides, some of our promising young players will have developed by then. I'd rather suck up the full 7 mil cap hit for the 2 years where we'll likely still be a mediocre team.

time is more important than money for the rangers. longer time is much worse than bigger money.
