Chi-Mon (Price)

Well I know we aren't going to acquire another goalie but if we did what about this deal (Lets say Huet somehow ended up in KHL or somewhere not Chicago)

To Hawks
G Carey Price

To Habs
F Patrick Sharp (Can play all 3 forward positions)
Hawks 1st in 2011

It'd have to be bigger than that.

I think the Hawks need to accept that they're going to have to stick with Huet for this season

Take him to Mexico and then steal his passport and papers! Very rural Mexico well away from US

Oh we have accepted it (At least the fans that have there sanity)

Still fun to think of what trades work or dont work in minds of HF board people

I would say though that the Habs will have to choose a goalie come July. Because neither Halak nor Price will want to be in situation they are in now

Sure but both are RFA's so we have the luxury of qualifying them and THEN trade one during the summer. No need to this right now. Halak is and will be the reason we make or not the playoffs and as for Price he's Gainey's protégé so he won't be moved in a hurry just like that.

Price isn't struggling. Halak is just playing the best hockey of his life.Although the last two games have looked like he's starting to come back to earth.

For Price Montreal would want Kane/Toews/Keith or else why would Montreal trade him?

Problem is all 3 of those players are either elite or on cusp of being elite talent in NHL

Price is not

I think the only thing to pry either of Montreals goalies away will be a massive overpayment until Montreal is ready to deal one.

The Hawks should add Barker in that deal just because in 2011, the Blackhawks will probably win the President's Trophy and that the pick would be either 29 or 30.

Price has to potential to be, so why would we trade him? If we trade him don't you think Gainey should atleast try to get elite/first line talent back?

We know Huey's likely here for the rest of the season, but if Niemi plays like all but 1 start perhaps Niemi keeps the job...I'm dreaming. And Price...once again, so much potential, so much growing up to do...If you got offered Sharp straight up THIS YEAR, you should take it..

Imo its an overpayment, when is the last time a goaler got that kind of return? I'm an Habs fan and i would accept that deal right away.

Potential is a lot different than a Norris candidate Dman, or 21 and 22 year old Elite players.

What don't you understand? Would it have been smart to trade Keith before he turned "elite"? What im saying is Montreal will wait to see if Price is going to turn out elite but as of NOW to get him you need to offer elite players back.

It doesn't make sense....If you wait to see if he becomes elite, then if he do, you certainly won't trade him....and if he doesn't, you won't be able to get something good for a bust. Gainey has to make a choice here....he can't really wait. If he decides to wait, that means that he has decided not to trade Price. If he do that, he'll have to trade Halak very soon because he won't resign with the habs knowing that he'll be a backup.

I don't remember Keith being a Norris Candidate.

So, saying he is, it's like saying Price is an elite goalie, ergo Price = Keith/Toews/Kane.

2, or 3 more years of Sharp ? He's on a great deal at 3.9 and a first. Number of years left at that is what has me going hmmmm

Tough goalie choice for MTL I'd say. Price can still become a top tier goalie, he's years away from when goalies normally hit their prime. Its rare that a goalie of his age is in his 3rd season already.

At this point he's not even close to being worth a Keith/Kane/Toews though, but it'd also be incredibly dumb to deal him on MTLs part to deal him for less than that. They can't keep both goalies at this point, I remember someone on the TSN crew earlier in the year saying they spoke to Halak and he said he would rather go play in Russia than be a back up in the NHL. My choice would be to deal Halak, but how can you deal away the goalie whose playing better?? Like I said, tough call.

I know I'd be happy if we had Price here in TOR.

Splitting hairs are we? Its pretty obvious Keith will get a nomination this year, if not the hardware itself.

ergo Price < Keith/Toews/Kane

MTL should only take the Sharp deal if they either are convinced he won't become an elite goalie or they are committing to Halak.
