I actually ended up missing the game, but looks like there's cause for optimism.
Question: If Hawes continues to play as good as people are saying... How much of an upgrade is Bynum?
They're different players. Bynum is a classic back to the basket player, physical center. Gets most of his points in the paint. Hawes is a face up player that plays away from the basket. He's a much better passer than Bynum. Bynum is a much better rebounder. They are good compliments, but would probably get exposed by faster teams (Denver) when on the court at the same time. It'll be interesting to see how they do together. Hopefully we find out soon. Collins will probably keep him in his bench role.
Am i just ignorant? I live in Vegas which is a Lakers' town, and I don't remember Bynum being this hyped up.
He averaged 19 pts, 11 reb last year and that was playing 3rd fiddle behind Kobe and Gasol. He's a riser and could very well put up 25 and 12 type numbers being "the guy". What other centers would you take over Bynum? Howard, ???
Having Bynum and Hawes out there together at times could be helpful. Hawes an play his game against smaller players and not have to worry as much about defense.
It depends on the matchup. Against a team like the Heat, they can dominate at the offensive end, but defending them would be a ***** with those two. Against a traditional team like the Celtics or Lakers, they would be fine.
Holiday signed an extension with the Sixers just before the midnight deadline and hours after he led them to an 84-75 victory over the Denver Nuggets.
A person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Wednesday night that the extension was for four years and worth at least $41 million. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because it is team policy not to disclose contract terms. The Sixers had until midnight to strike a deal or risk Holiday becoming a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
I think it's safe to say Wayns has taken Ivey's job as the backup PG.
Ivey was never the backup PG. He's a specialist. A good perimeter defender. No offensive value. He's firmly at the end of the bench. With Holiday playing 40 minutes a night, there really isn't a backup PG. Maalik plays 5-10 minutes tops and Evan Turner fills out the rest. Obviously Jrue won't be able to sustain 40 minutes a night, so we'll have to see how that plays out.
Yesterday, was one of the worst games I've seen the Sixers play in a while. Sloppy with the ball. Poor defense. They were flat. Certainly losing JRich 2 minutes in didn't help. At the same time, NY has been lights out shooting the first 2 games of the season. 46% from the field and almost 50% from 3. That's unsustainable. Need to defend Melo better. He's been awesome, no doubt. They just have to contain him better. I thought Thad would be able to handle Melo somewhat, but he got taken to school a few times. Rematch tonight.
I'm looking forward to him being a defensive weapon just as much. I know the defense looked solid against the Nuggets but it was just against the Knicks.
He'll have to play better than he did yesterday if he wants to keep it. Hopefully it was a learning experience.
I meant on the positional depth chart not in terms of minutes. It's clear than more often than not when Holiday sits Turner will handle the ball.
I like as a guy who can come in and play defense late in games. He'll hit a couple 3 for you every once in a while but that's about it. I expect him to be a DNP-CD more often than not though. Whereas I could see Maalik getting around 5 mins per game.
I only watched the 1st half yesterday and they looked bad. They're gonna need Bynum back to really compete, obviously.
In other news I love the blue jerseys. Might have to get one, its just, I don't know who to get.
I randomly got a white Thad Young for Christmas a few years ago.
I think their offense will come around before too long. They're just not making shots, but they actually have guys now who have proven they can shoot a little. Nick Young and Dorrell Wright have been pretty awful shooting the ball- they'll heat up. If Richardson comes back soon that should help too.
By the way, if anyone didn't know about it, you can download all 76ers games in HD at www(dot)hd-nba4life(dot)com. Even though I'm not a basketball fan, I just found the site, and I figured I'd share with fellow Flyers fans that follow the NBA. Oh, and the reason it's not a directly clickable link is that I'm not sure whether it'd be allowed to post it, and I also don't want to direct any unnecessary hits towards the website itself.
