I'm sure we can get him without Reim or Roux.

Hartnell+ Boucher + Morisson

Price+ Salary(Mara/Laraque)

Actually, when you factor in taxes I think we've figured out this claim is untrue. Montreal is heavily taxed.

I traded Emery, a fake prospect + picks for Price in NHL 10 and went on to win 3 straight Stanley Cups, with Price netting 3 straight Vezinas and Conn Smythes.

I say we go for it.

Well, the salary on the contract would be more, if not the actual take home pay....still, if he was traded there, the taxes would make that take home pay even lower.

Right, but the trope at the time was that he turned down more money from Montreal...while true in terms of contract, obviously you have to factor in taxes (why the KHL offers are so problematic to the NHL) for the actual value of the contract.

...also why so many baseball players used Florida residences to avoid taxes for a while.

And MTL only offered him 6 years where we offered him 8. Our total contract was more money

14.5% to be precise, which is roughly double the entire rest of North America. Lived in the accursed Province for fourteen years...

Halak has played better, and gotten more starts.

ANd its just pure speculation since Gainey loves price, and now hes gone

Halak has been playing really well, and I think they figured Price would have been playing at a higher level at this point.

Very true. I think the tax situation was far more important than the media pressures in his decision to sign here instead of with the Habs.

I'm pretty sure I've heard/read him say that the 2 extra years had a bigger factor. MTL offered like 7mil for 6 years. We offered 6.5 mil for 8

Halak has played out of his mind and in addition Price broke under the Montreal pressure and it has been a constant dispute if Montreal is too much for him. Last season the kid was in near tears following the slaughter from Boston. Furthermore Halak's agent has pressured the Canadiens to decide because Halak no longer desires to be a backup. With Gainey, who adored Price, departing the possibility of his moving is all the more probable.

Halak has been playing good nothing to say against that.

However, they would probably murder themselves, if they trade him and he becomes as good at everyone thinks he's capably of.

I could've sworn MTL's overall number for their offer was something like 52m.

That's kind of strange, since he's making like $13 combined in the last two years of that front loaded beast of a contract.

I dont want to trade for Price if he is going to cost Giroux/JVR. He has proven nothing in the NHL that makes him worth that.

If we trade for him, We can easily toss in a Morisson, Riopel or Deserres if MTL wants another goalie coming back. Hopefully not Ericsson though.

Richards, Carter, Giroux, vanRiemsdyk, Pronger, and Timonen are all untouchable.

Virtually anyone else is fair game for the right price.

...well, what happens when you don't have 1st round picks to offer, is that you need to offer up 1st rd talent back.

Maybe, I might just not know what the hell I'm talking about.

I hate this talk about Giroux or JVR being moved for something like this...Price might have pretty good value, but we'd have to be able to get it done without involving either of those two. Besides, goalies seem to usually not have as much value as most people think. Can anyone think of some goalie trades made in recent years to use as a comparison? I can't think of many recent goalie trades at all.

I wouldn't have a single untouchable, to be honest. Sure, some guys would require drastic overpayment for me to trade, but I wouldn't hang up on anyone for asking about anyone on the roster.

Biron netted a 2nd.

Roloson got a 1st from Edmonton.

Huet got a 2nd.

Vokoun got a 1st and 2 2nds.
