This trade is horrible. You hate Boyes that much to trade him for Liles?

I agree! The Blues wouldn't trade Boyes for Liles. The offensively anemic Blues won't trade one of their top point producers for a defenseman. As has been mentioned they already have similar players coming up through their system, there is no need to make this trade.

I'd do it from and Avs POV.

If you want Svatos to help offset the loss of Boyes for the remainder of the year we can throw him in too. I'd be willing to add a pick to make this deal work as well (not a 1st though obviously).

There's no reason for the Blues to trade Boyes for a defenseman. We need more scoring, not less. I think if Boyes is traded it would only be in a package for a better scorer.

Boyes for Liles isnt trading from our depth. Defense is our depth, and that would be simply adding even more depth. If Brewer or Jackman were dealt elsewhere, I would be able to get behind this deal, but I dont see that happening because of Brewer's recent injury woes, and Jackman's high value by JD and Co.

Also, $4.25m isnt really an albatross contract for a d-man playing over 20 mins a night on a top 10 PK....you are making it sound like it is Wade Redden, Rozsival, Hamerlik bad.
It is an albatross for the production he has given us over the lifetime of his deal. Whatever...I despise Brewer so let's not get in to that.

When I mentioned dealing from a surplus I was referring to dealing Cole or Junland, not Boyes. Our organizational strength is our young defenseman and not all of these guys will be Blues so you manage your assets and try to improve your team.

As far as this:

I just dont see the Blues making a trade to bring in a defensemen with multiple years remaining on his contract without moving another defensemen whose contract runs beyond this season in the deal.
Ordinarily I'd agree, but Brewer is gone in 2011. The Blues have managed the Cap pretty well and they've been patient so we don't have any bad, longterm deals that aren't expiring this year (Kariya) or next (Brewer).

I just find it hard to believe that fans like you who have watched the Blues do not think a dynamic, offensive defenseman in his prime, who can skate and pass is not a glaring need for this team.

And do you honestly think Boyes is not replaceable watching firsthand this year how worthless the guy is when he's not scoring?

Exactly. We need to be moving Dman to make room for next year. Not trade for one who is owed 4.25 next year and 4.5 the year after that.

I doubt the Aves would trade Wolski and their first. I would trade Boyes, Brewer(or Jackman but preferably Brewer), and Colaiacovo(or Junland) for Liles, and Wolski. Aves probaly wouldn't want that. What do the Aves fans here think?

Boyes, Brewer, and a forward prospect for Liles, Wolski, first rounder 2010, second rounder 2010.
