I am interested to see what kind of schedule they work out. From some fans comments the Falcons play the same close teams all the time to save money on travel. Maybe the Oil will spring for more travel and variety of opponents. Though I guess you do not want to over do the travel and have no practice time either. A delicate balance I suppose.
SMG will be running the arena ops. per the lease agreement.

Should be a nice arrangement, though it's a shame they couldn't find a city closer to home as Vancouver and Calgary have done with Manitoba and Abbotsford respectively. In any case, looks like Oklahoma City has potential for an AHL team. The affiliation with the Falcons hasn't gone well in terms of on-ice performance, and I have to think Bruce Landon et al down in Springfield will be happy to get away from their affiliation with us.

What's wrong with Oklahoma Oilers - or Oklahoma City Oilers? It wouldn't be the first AHL club with the big team's name and the jerseys etc. could be the same - the kids might feel more professional wearing Oiler colours. Besides, it's not as if there isn't any oil in Oklahoma.

Because there are the Tulsa Oilers in the CHL. And it was on of the better rivalries of the Central Hockey League. It would be like renaming the Jr team the Edmonton Flames...

That's a pretty good reason, thanks. Another brilliant idea down the drain, sigh.

It's unoriginal and boring to keep naming teams with an Oil theme. You can be professional with a good name other than Oilers also.

I also see

And probably more.

They're just getting their Twitter ducks in a row.

Yes, but I think the point HF4L was trying to make is, none of the others are following people. If you look at the Oil Kings', they're following all AHL teams, the Oilers, and the EDM Oil Kings.

Bingo. The fact they secured those twitter names a while ago was getting the Ducks in a row. But only fleshing out the account of one of them is sort of a tell IMO.

I guess if they start selling more tickets than that they will just move the curtain back a couple thousand seats.

The Twitter thing plus Copper & Blue made it sound like the Oil Kings name was already decided. Also a lot of old season ticket holders of the Blazers said they were already surveyed on the name thing by telephone. Though I do not care for the Oil Kings named being used so hopefully Barnes is right.

I am trying to see if anyone is going to stream the press conference live on the internet. It will be at 4pm CDT, and I will post it if there is one.

it could be, or it could be whomever is in charge of the accounts is trying to be cheeky.

I'd be surprised if they called them the OKC Oil Kings, unless they're trying to build the concept of a "multi-league franchise".

Or they're just really unoriginal.

...just as long as they don't try and fiddle with the Stockon Thunder, that ECHL franchise is gold. GOLD.

wow thats pretty far south ..
Souray would be a lot closer to his kid once we waive + demote him

another crappy season like this and we'll have players requesting 2 week conditioning stints to AHL in the middle of winter.

I know, it seems like really poor planning to have both our development teams in warm climates. I want our prospects to play somewhere they hate.

I just got word that there isn't going to be a live streaming feed. But there will be a video on KOCO.com, when they get it posted of the whole press conference.

Update: Watch koco.com/sports for the video of the press conference.

the contract is 5+5 years, just heard on Oilers lunch

Copps stadium, will use 7000 seats.

Looks like they are trying to get some deals where you can go watch some OKC games when you purchase oilers tickets or something (Sheraton is right next to arena)

Yeah I do not imagine an NBA team will share with an AHL team. Though I guess you never know. I believe the Staples Center in Los Angeles is the home of the LA Clippers, LA Lakers and the LA Kings of the NHL.

Edit - Nevermind I found a link about the Cox Convention Center renovations.

Just an FYI: the Lake Erie Monsters and the Cleveland Cavaliers both play out of Quicken Loans Arena. However, Dan Gilbert owns the Monsters, Cavs and Quicken Loans, so the situation is a little different. But it CAN happen.
