Worst Contracts

Care to guess who you already know is in the top five in his first year of the deal?

http://new.cbssports.com/nhl/story/1...istakes-linger

Quote:
4. Shawn Horcoff, Oilers: The Edmonton center had a coming-out party right after the lockout when the Oilers made a surprise run to the Stanley Cup Finals, but these days he's collecting big money and spending most of his time on the third line. Overall, little is going right in Edmonton this season, but Horcoff has become a major whipping boy. Players who have $5.5 million cap hits for the next four seasons to go along with only 20 points and a minus-31 tend to find themselves in that situation.
But, it could be worse.

for those who don't wanna read or saw cbs and asked--they cover hockey? I thought they just did CSI spin offs and cheap csi copy cats?

1) Wade Redden
2) Scott Gomaz
3) Danny Brierre
4) Some dude on the 3rd line for the oielrs
5)Cheechoo
6) Mike Commodore
7). Rostislav Olesz, Panther
8)8. Jeff Finger, Maple Leafs
9. John-Michael Liles, Avalanche
10. Cristobal Huet, Blackhawks

while I think there are few things wrong with the list one name stands out

the guy from the Panthers--Would you trade POS straight for him right now? I would. How is Lilies' contract worse then Gilbert's?

I would say Campbell's contract is worse then Huet

Jeff Finger, this has to be the worst in hockey. The guy can't even play in the starting lineup.

I'm surprised that Finger is 8th on that list. He does make $2M less then Horcoff, but he doesn't even dress.

And no Chris Drury? Come On.

Everyone who hates Horc's contract should read the comments on that article. I guess that means everyone MUST read them. It made me feel better!

True, it could be worse. He could be on contract for the next five seasons.

I don't disagree with Horcoff being on the list but they missed some really bad contracts.

Not a great article.

How about Horcoff for Huet? Not likely with Khabibulin making 4.5 mil, or whatever it is, but at least we move Horcoff's crap contract and -31. Plus, Huet is only signed for two more years.

Let's hope this was just the learning curve some GMs had for contracts in the salary cap era....wow some really ugly ones.

One player who never gets any attention on these list but should is Rolston, he's been a major bust at ~5 mil in NJ. Plus he was over 35 when he signed (and doesn't have any chronic medical problems, so they can't even use the LTIR way out)

I think they should have included Drury's and DiPietro's contracts in there.

i think an unexpected economic recession is more responsible for those contracts then anything else. it's easy to view contracts like horcoffs as horrible (because they are), but people overlook the fact that everyone was unabashedly throwing large sums of money at players with no idea that the bottom was going to fall out.

The worst part about this is that Horcoff continues getting opportunities to propel himself up to #1 of that list.

I'd rather he be like others and just a straight up healthy scratch every game. Some coaches are doin' it right.

Would it be just rude to point out that our fearless leader, Mr. Lowe, aggresively pursued both Redden and Gomez during the leadup to their UFA status or when they became UFA's?

"Success" in those attempts would give us 3 of the top 5 on this list.

Just saying.

Dipietro's isn't even the worst on his team so i don't see how you make that argument.

Horcoff is by far one of the worst, but there are plenty of bad ones.
Lecavalier is pretty horrendous if you ask me. 10 more years at 7.7M.
I'd say he's probably not worth this kind of money now. There is no way he will be worth it in 5, much less 7-8 years.

Yep. Nothing matches Yashin. The Isles will be paying him near 3M for 4 more years and he's not even on the team anymore.
